Magnolia (1999)
Better then Crash !
Magnolia
Story:
A handful of people in California's San Fernando Valley are having one hell of a day. TV mogul Earl Partridge (Jason Robards) is on his deathbed and his trophy wife (Julianne Moore) is stockpiling tranquilliser prescriptions all over town with alarming determination. Earl's nurse (Philip Seymour Hoffman) is trying desperately to get in touch with Earl's only son, sex-guru Frank TJ Mackey (Tom Cruise), who's about to have his carefully constructed past blown by a TV reporter (April Grace). Whiz kid Stanley (Jeremy Blackman) is being goaded by his selfish dad into breaking the record for the game show What Do Kids Know? Meanwhile, Stanley's predecessor, the grown-up quiz kid Donnie Smith (William H. Macy) has lost his job and is nursing a severe case of unrequited love. And the host of What Do Kids Know?, the affable Jimmy Gator (Philip Baker Hall), like Earl, is dying of cancer, and his attempt to reconcile with his cokehead daughter (Melora Walters) fails miserably. She, meanwhile, is running hot and cold with a cop (John C. Reilly) who would love to date her, if she can sit still for long enough. And over it all, a foreboding sky threatens to pour something more than just rain.
My Opinion.
This is a great Movie in everey aspect of the word great, Why?
Cast with lots of Oscar worthy performances, Fantastic Story lines, Great Soundtrack which is perfect combined with te movie, Sharp and fascinating Dialogues, Fantastic Camera Work, You can watch it over and over again, You feel the pain of the characters, You live their Lives, Nice Build up, Frank TJ Mackey (one of the Most important Characters in this movie), Tom Cruise (normal not my favorite but is Amazing here, won Golden Globe), Amazing and Powerful End Message ..... Lots of Frogs
If you are not convinced yet go watch this MOVIE and Judge yourselve, i thought it was a better film than Oscar winner Crash in every way possible ... well maybay Crash did had a better soundtrack then Magnolia (talking about the Mark Isham Part there) ? not sure which is more powerful brought to the screen.

Blue Velvet (1986)
Candy Coulerd Clown
Oh Candy Coulerd Clown.....
David Lynch's "Blue Velvet" was one of the most influential films of the 1980's, and arguably jump-started the idea of independent film-making. But aside from that, it is also one of the most original, invigorating films I've ever seen.
In a tour de force opening sequence, which has been widely praised, brightly-lit, picture-perfect clips are shown of a small town: a man watering his green lawn, a milkman waving as his truck drives by, flowers blooming beside a picket fence...and then the happiness of the scene vanishes as the man watering his lawn collapses on the ground, and the camera slowly burrows down through the glass until it comes upon a mound of bugs, symbolizing the dark secrets buried in the seemingly perfect town.
The film then switches to a college student (Kyle MacLachlan) returning to his hometown of Lumberton to stay for awhile and visit his father in the hospital. While walking through a field, he spots a human ear lying on the ground, which leads to him meeting up with the town's sheriff's teenage daughter (Laura Dern), and convincing her to help him out to solve the mystery of the ear, which involves a nightclub singer (Isabella Rossellini), murder, and a sadistic kidnapper/drug dealer (Dennis Hopper).
My opinion:
This movie is underrated and by a lot of people mis understood ! i am happy to see the IMDb staff give this movie a 9.
It has got Amazing performances by Dennis Hopper and Kyle Maclachlan, They are both so convincing... I like David lynch a lot (my favorite Director) and with blue velvet he shows us the best a director can do .. he should have won an Oscar for his directing skills instead oliver stone did with platoon! (i like platoon also but the directing in Blue velvet goes so much further) Lynch shows us how you can make a good movie with a very small Budget. He knows how to make his characters ,locations and soundtrack mysterious and that's the power of Blue Velvet and other Lynch movies.
I love this film! And it could be considered the best from the 80's and even today it can compete with the best.... A Masterpiece !
Listed in my top 3 of all time

Mulholland Dr. (2001)
Lynch proves he is the nr.1 with Mulholland DR.
This is what i call A modern time Masterpiece, This is why i Think David Lynch is one of the greatest directors of his time. (Blue velvet, Twin peaks, Lost highway, Straight Story,The Elephant man)
'A love story in the city of dreams'
Exploring some of his favourite themes - amnesia / memory; roads / travelling and alter egos / changing identities, Mulholland Drive is fortunately not simply a rerun on the Lost Highway
Story:
The film begins with an attempted murder on a pitch-black night on LA's Mulholland Drive that turns fatal when a carload of partying teenagers hits their limo. The targeted victim, a luscious brunette beauty (Laura Elena Haring), is the sole survivor, and she stumbles away from the wreckage seeking shelter in a gorgeous nearby apartment that has been left empty by a vacationing actress. She is discovered the following morning while taking a shower by the chipper Betty (Naomi Watts), an Ontario native who has come to stay at her aunt's place in Hollywood as she attempts to start an acting career. The woman, who has no memory, tells Betty that he name is Rita after seeing a poster for "Gilda," starring Rita Hayworth. Betty and Rita become self-appointed detectives, as they decide to find out who Rita is and what happened on Mulholland Drive.
Just when you think you've got everything puzzled out this movie will take a complete other direction, with an amazing plot twist.
This is a movie you can talk about with others after seeing it and discover so much, this is the kind of movie you will have to watch several times to complete the whole puzzle ... this is the kind of movie that will use your brains for a full 100 %.
Opinion:
There are people who don't like David lynch movies, well i can tell you, if you don't like blue velvet or lost highway you certainly don't like this movie, For the people that do like movies from David lynch, or movies where not everything is explained in simple words, will certainly love this movie.
David lynch is my favorite director, Why ?? well because he don't give a f*ck what the mainstream blockbuster loving people or especially "Critics"" will say about his movies. He makes movies his way and not that of production companies (except Dune). You have to love the movies and not the money to make films like this ... and that's why i respect Lynch so much because he is one of few who does it because he likes to make it and not for box office records!.
All and all Mulholland Drive is one of lynch his best works Nady's and also one of my favorite movies of all time it is listed in my top 30. and i rate it with a 9.
But Remind not for everyone as entertaining it's a matter of Taste ! When you don't like it the first time (or just won't get it which isn't that strange), just talk to people here on IMDb or read some explanations about MD... then watch it again and i will know for sure you will rate it higher!

Fight Club (1999)
One of the best ever made !
Fight Club is unique
Story:
First rule of Fight Club is ... You don't talk about Fight Club
Jack (Edward Norton) is a bored car recall inspector caught in the middle of mediocrity in a rat race that he cannot get out of. He suffers from chronic insomnia, never knowing where his life is going from one moment to the next in his white collar, materialistic world. Jack begins attending support groups for any disease imaginable, in order to feel needed and part of something. His insomnia disappears and suddenly he feels alive for the first time in years. On a flight he meets Tyler Durden (Brad Pitt). Tyler is a charismatic Soap salesman who has a whole different slant on life that captivates Jack. Jack returns to find his apartment has been destroyed by a gas explosion and as a last resort he asks Tyler for a place to stay. Together they discuss lifes trivialities. They decide that the only way to feel alive is to really live. They form Fight Club. A secret group that meets with the sole purpose of staging fights between its members. Forget the gym, jogging or even sex. This is the way to get that adrenaline rushing, to get fit and make you a stronger, more focused person. The first rule of Fight Club is: Don't Talk about Fight Club. The Second Rule of Fight Club is : Don't talk about fight club !. Welcome to Fight Club.
My opinion:
Fight club goes further then any movie ever created, it is almost perfect: The acting, Story-line, plot twists, Strange electronic Soundtrack, tense, action and of course the qlimax ending ! Brad pitt did a great job and Edward norton is just showing us one of the best performances ever showed in a movie ( can compete with marlon brando in Godfather and deniro in raging bull and taxidriver) David fincher (not my favorite director) has created one of the Best movies by giving it that dark atmosphere just like he did in se7en.
This movie is certainly listed in my top 5 of all time and is probably never going to be replaced, because i like this movie so much and watcht it so many times discovering new things every time.
9.8 / 10 One of the best in all ways !
Citizen Kane (1941)
Most important movie ever made
Kane "Citizen Kane" (1941) was Orson Welles' film debut, and in it he created an enduring masterpiece that is considered by many to be the greatest movie ever made.
Story:
Shortly after "Citizen Kane" opens, we see aged newspaper tycoon Charles Foster Kane (Welles) softly drawl the word "Rosebud" and die. Sensing that there's a story behind Kane's dying word, a magazine editor shows a reporter a newsreel obituary that chronicles how Kane created a business empire, married a U.S. President's niece, ran unsuccessfully for Governor of New York, divorced his first wife and married a second, collected art, built a fabulous estate called Xanadu, and divorced his second wife. The reporter is then assigned the task of ferreting out the significance of "Rosebud." As the reporter's investigation progresses, fascinating details about Kane emerge.
My opinion:
Citizen kane is maybe for a lot of people (myselve not included) not a real entertaining movie, But there is no doubt about it that aws one of the most important movies ever made.
The visual style of "Citizen Kane" looks stunningly fresh and inventive even today, and the unconventional narrative structure of the Oscar-winning screenplay still seems daring. Welles' portrayal of a character who gradually ages from 25 to old age is unexcelled, and the movie's supporting cast, most of whom had worked previously with Welles on stage and radio productions, is superb. In short, everything came together in "Citizen Kane" to make it one of the greatest character studies ever captured on film.
Citizen kane is also one of my favorites and is listed in my top 5 of all time: 9.5 / 10 Masterpiece !!!
Twin Peaks (1990)
One of the greatest TV shows ever created
.A Masterpiece
Story: Twin Peaks tells the story of FBI Special Agent Dale Cooper and his investigation into the murder of a popular young local girl Laura Palmer. The programme portrays small-town America via an imaginary tight-knit community of unsophisticates.
The gradual unraveling of the tale necessarily exposes each Twin Peaks inhabitant to unwelcome scrutiny from Agent Cooper and men from the Sheriff's Department. As with much of Lynch's other work (such as Blue Velvet), Twin Peaks explores the relationship between the veneer of respectability and the seedier layer of life beneath it. Like all Lynch's previous and subsequent work, there exists a strong moral seriousness that informs the totality of the production.
The series was set in 1989, with each episode--barring occasional exceptions--representing a single day in the chronology.
My opinion about TP:
Twin Peaks is my favorite TV show of all time (considdering Band of brothers as a mini series). Twin peaks has got amazing Characters, dialogues, Storyline, and Soundtrack.
Twin Peaks is particularly memorable for Kyle MacLachlan's performance as Special Agent Dale Cooper, who uttered one of the more popular lines in the series which became a catch phrase: "Damn fine cup of coffee." His performance is one of the best in the series but also of all TV shows. He is so convincing as one of the kindest, honest en Best human beings on this planet that every man has got to admit he wanna be like him (I now do drink Black coffee to start with :-).
Like i said The soundtrack is amazing... especially "Falling" (opening theme)
I have to say that after finding Laura palmers killer (in episode 9 from season 2) the series, Transforms from being amazingly good to just good. after ep9 the story continues with cooper staying in Twinpeaks and the question who is BOB and where is he coming from ?
all and all: Twin peaks is the greatest television show ever created and beats: 24, X-files, Lost, Miami Vice, CSI and all other good TV shows.
Twinpeaks .... 9.6/10
Sam's Song (1969)
one of the worst ever !!!
i saw this movie 2 days ago and damn .... this movie sucks big time,
even Deniros part isn't worth watching this piece of first class time-waste.
I hated the dialogues, i didn't liked the story at all and it contains one of the worst soundtracks i have ever heard in my entire life.
I can't say anything positive about this movie it was so boring that one of my friends who was also watching this movie fell asleep after 30 mins.
i have seen a lot of crap passing my DVD player but this is certainly the worst ... at the moment i can't think of a movie which i hated more than this one. at the end of the movie we also burned the DVD with my zippo, that was the only fun we had with that DVD.
This piece of crap can't even be called "a movie" it really deserves a place in the IMDb bottom 100 !! 1/10
Beat the Devil (2002)
The Best of the BMW Hire series
I really liked this Part of the Hire series, a lot of good acting by Clive Owen and Garry Oldman and a lot of humor, action and a very surprising story with a hilarious ending.
Decades ago, the legendary James Brown sold his soul to the devil for fame and fortune. Now he wishes to renegotiate. Hired to take Mr. Brown to a rendezvous with the devil (Gary Oldman), the driver (clive owen) soon finds himself entangled in fiendish plans.
conclusion, This is the best Part in the hire series together with The Follow from Kar Wai wong(very different but almost as good).
Other nice ones are: Star, Ambush, Ticker and powderkeg.
actually there is a really bad one in the Hire series which is Chosen, really bad car chase, i only liked the ending.
Heat (1995)
best Mann movie
What a great movie !!
Story:
Neil McCauley is a thief... an expert thief... one of the best. His philosophy in life - become attached to nothing in life that you can't walk away from if the "Heat" is on. His crew of criminals is a high-tech outfit pulling off professional jobs that impress even the likes of Detective Vincent Hanna. But Hanna, a man driven through life only by his work, becomes obsessed, at the expense of his private life, with bringing McCauley down. As McCauley's crew prepare for the score of a lifetime, and Hanna's team tries to bring him in, the two find that they are challenged by the greatest minds on the opposite side of the law that either one has ever encountered.
My opinion:
This is certainly my favorite Micheal Mann movie, and also one of my favorite movies of all time.
You wanna now why ? well because of the great story, almost perfect cast and of course it's great soundtrack and ending.
But the most powerful thing about this movie is the fact that you can't choose side between the L.A.P.D (Pachino,) or the master criminals leaded by deniro. do you want the cops to stop the bad guys or do you want them to get away with it ?
This movie also contains some of the best scenes i've ever seen, like the big bank shoot-out and the coffie house scene with deniro and pachino Talking about there different lives who actually look a lot like each other. Cop and criminal do respect each other but if the Heat comes around the corner they will take each other down.
like i said before i see this movie as one of the best of all time and i think it is underrated by a lot of IMDb members. i am happy the staff gives it an 8.6 which it deserve. i give this movie a nine out of ten.
9.5/10 **********
The Thin Red Line (1998)
One of a kind
Why ??? is this movie so underrated on IMDb, every time i see that score it puts me down.
Story:
Based on the novel by James Jones, THE THIN RED LINE tells the story of a group of men, an Army Rifle company called C-for-Charlie, who change, suffer and ultimately make essential discoveries about themselves during the fierce World War II battle of Guadalcanal. The story takes place as Army troops are moved in to relieve battle-weary Marine units. It follows their journey, from the surprise of an unopposed landing, through the bloody and exhausting battles that follow, to the ultimate departure of those who survived.
The story is more than a tale of men fighting a key battle, one which would ultimately stem the Japanese advance through the Pacific Islands. It explores the intense bonds that develop between men under terrible stress, even evil; to Jones, who served with an Army unit in Guadalcanal, the soldiers' feelings and emotions developed into nothing less than a sense of love...of family. The horrors of war helped them lose their idea of self and of the world around them. They were no longer fighting solely for patriotic reasons or the larger world and its issues which had brought them there; they were fighting for survival and for the men next to them.
My opinion:
This is one of my favorite war movies of all time together with Appocalypse now, Platoon and Saving private ryan.
The best about the thin red line and also what makes it so different than all those other War movies, are the poetic dialogues from some of the carachters they really make you feel bad about war. "war doesn't make men noble it turns them into dogs" and please let be honest this is the truth.
also great is the cast which exists of Sean Penn, Nick Nolte, John cussack, Jim Caviezel, Adrien Brody, Woody harrelson, George cloony and much more fine actors.
And then of course the beautiful nature scenes from the south pacific, and one of the best soundtracks from Hans zimmer.
Maybe the amount of action is less than movies like Saving private ryan and blackhawk down, but the action scenes this movie contains are very good and make you sit at the top of your seat especially the Japanese village scene makes you believe that War sux.
This was the first movie that Showed me that there are no Winners and heroes. "It's all about Property"
The Thin red line never gets me bored, and is listed in my top 10 favorite movies of all time. a nine out of ten
9.6 /10
