Olhar Indiscreto (2023)
Oh My God...
...what a rubbish!
This is my first contact with Brazilian TV, and this is what I have learned so far:
1) All Brazilian women are made of plastic. I caught a glimpse of a natural breast from Tóia Ferraz, and seriously overweight actress who plays Rita, who does not need implants to be big breasted, but every other actress has implants, so obvious ones, and show them regularly.
2) All Brazilian men are artistically carved sex gods. Main protagonists (Heitor, Fernando, even Rafael) are physically perfect.
3) Everyone has sex with everyone. There is no episode without meaningless sex scene. Usually it has nothing to do with the story, it is just sex per se - for the cause of sex. You have it all - man on man, woman on woman and classic mixed couples - the trends are satisfied. I hate forcing LGBT scenes onto us in such exquisite ways, I really do not enjoy watching man pounding another man. It is blurred for now, but in a few years will probably be as sharp as other meaningless sex scenes from this content. This kind of content should not be showed before midnight.
4) Acting is average to low. Granny is catastrophically bad.
5) Screenplay is lousy - just a bunch of unrelated events, very chaotic until the climax which "explains everything" but is so unbelievable that it leaves a sour taste of "What was I watching the whole time? How did I endure all this torture?". I really feel masochistic for watching all the 10 episodes. It is so unreal it reminds me of "Televisa Presenta" soaps from 1990's. You do not know who is the parent, who is the child, who killed whom and why...total mess. I even suspect this is usual for content made in Latin America. I hope I will watch some good Argentinian movie to erase this catastrophe.
6) The police is totally incompetent. There is no such thing as CSI squad in Brazil. Every crime is perfect.
I could go on, but have wasted enough of my time and energy explaining why is this such a bad content. People who made this should really think about doing something else with their lives, film making is not their thing.
Jack Ryan: Druz'ya I Vragi (2022)
Not so far away from Finland
I see the other comments here and must say that first thing I have done is to check the distance between Matoksa, which is very close to St. Petersburg and in proximity to Finland, and Kotka, in Finland where they landed with chopper, and it is less than 200km (120miles) apart. So with a helicopter it would take less than an hour to fly. The problem is only where did they get the helicopter from? It must have waited them in the Russian territory. But even then there is a problem of Russian response when you enter with helicopter and kill Russian soldiers, and then you just fly away like nothing happened and no one spots you nor goes after you. Not believable.
Jack Ryan: Falcon (2022)
Too bad it's all in English
So now everyone speaks English with accents. Too bad. It feels like it is adapted for a mediocre American viewer who can not stand hearing other language, and is delighted to see the same old plot about Russia's nuclear threat... Could writers come up with anything new instead of retelling the same old story again and again?
There are a lot of Goofs, you can read about them in other reviews, but the thing about the language is bothering me the most. Past two seasons were made more believable because of hearing the native language - you watch the scenery, you hear the language, you believe it. But now it is gone.
Wonder Woman 1984 (2020)
Cheesy
I have watched just the first 15 minutes and words "FEMALE DIRECTOR" are screaming in bright colors. It is so cheesy that I have problem to make myself continue watching. It is just like some dumb comedy, like 1984 is some parallel world of dumbness.
Predestination (2014)
Promising beginning, impossible ending
*** There will be spoilers ***
Interesting from the beginning, story becomes better and better as The Barkeep's (a.k.a. temporal agent) and John's story becomes intertwined, but in the end there is one major thing making everything impossible: No matter how they jump, there can be no baby Jane, Jane and John at the same time. First there must be a baby so that it grows up as Jane. But there can be no baby without both John and Jane. Even with the time machine the constellation is impossible. It may all be possible (we could talk more about Jane, John and Barkeep and if it can or can not play like that) if only the baby originated from somebody else. Without this "snake that eats one's tail" situation, and "what is older chicken or egg" repetition throughout the movie (check Trivia section - it is full of that kind of insinuations) I would rate it a nine. But no, they had to be too clever. So I rate it six out of ten.
Passengers (2008)
Old news...
Do not read this review until you have already seen the movie, because there WILL be spoilers.
so...
Yes, she is cute. And he is charming. And the story goes, and there is the mystery, romance and all... but in the end you see that you have been fooled. Again. First time it was a revelation. Second time you say: OK, it is a little different now, I can buy it. But the third time...it is too much.
To be concise, if I ever again see the movie about dead people that do not know they are dead, and need help of other dead people to "move to the other side" (I am not talking about zombie movie...), then it will be awarded with a big one star rating from me. It's cast can all be the Academy Award winners, I don't care.
So, The Sixth Sense (1999) - 9 stars
The Others (2001) - 7 stars
Passengers (2008) - 3 stars
any other similar story recycling - 1 star.
And, if by any chance I come upon a movie with the same story dating before 1999. the previous ratings will be revised (you can imagine how).
