South of Nowhere (2005)
You're missing out if you're not watching
I'm so glad that the The-N channel brought back "South of Nowhere" for another season this is just a show that I cheer for! A great story you have the Carlin family who move from a small Ohio town all the way to Los Angeles to start a new life, only to find as always new challenges and problems await, like the overcrowded public school system. Gabrielle Christian a teenage girl who is ambitious, free-spirited and sexy, questioning her own sexuality all the way.
I can also say, that this show seems misplaced on The-N channel. Yes, I know Degrassi is similar to this (maybe even a little bit more risky). It does deal with a mother and father, and their teenagers in their new life, and the concern for safety and love in the city of angels, but there are some touchy situations this show touches base with, such as sexuality. I have no problem with a single part of this show, but the surprise is the channel it airs. Not many people have The-N and I would have liked if it got more exposure. I know it would seem fairly normal on a regular cable TV channel, but The-N is a bit risky. I didn't completely believe it myself, but it's true. The Carlin family meet people who take drugs, lesbians, teenagers who have sex.
I must say I was sick of these television shows set in Los Angeles in an all-white, not overcrowded public school. That's not how it really is! I am all for risk, and to that I can say I hope to see more of this show around. It's a fun show to watch and portrays Los Angeles accurately.
Lizzie McGuire (2001)
Hate this awful show.
Wow. This show has got to be one of the worst kid's shows, right up there with Zoey 101 & Naturally, Sadie I have ever had the displeasure of witnessing in my whole life. This is sucking the slime off the bottom of the barrel, I cannot believe anybody would praise this. Anyways, I probably should give some reasons to support what I'm saying.
First off, it's so sickeningly unrealistic and unbelievable, I can't even take it. I know, you're going to go off saying -oh it's Disney, it's a kid's show! For one thing, they did touch, no more like graze, on the eating disorder thing and shoplifting, but just barely. They could've gone deeper, those would make for an interesting plot line. Also, I don't get why Lizzie got involved in a life of petty crime after ONE trip to detention. And why is detention portrayed as being bad? There are a lot worse things out there. Another thing that bugs me is the fact that Lizzie bitches about her parents, and is rude to them, when they only want to help her and seem OK, but a bit weird maybe. It could be a lot worse. The fact that she is in love with Ethan Craft is disgusting, considering he is "hot" but has no brains (BTW Clayton Snyder's hideously ugly). I can't believe that Aaron Carter kissed Lizzie, who he's never met, JUST because she was standing under mistletoe. Which is very disturbing. Also, every single problem Lizzie faces, are like a major deal when they're nothing. And can be solved in half an hour tops. Some sappy music, someone apologizing, follow by a hug-then cut to bloopers. There is also usually a retarded subplot involving Matt McGuire which serves as comic relief, but is pathetic and completely unfunny. What kind of messages are they sending girls? Being popular is your only goal in life, have a crush on the dumbest but cute boy? What is up with Lizzie looking like she stepped out of the salon every day, wearing over the top clothes? Her hair was crimped, straightened, had hair extensions and her clothes are probably designer. The least they could do was make Lizzie look perfectly average, wearing jeans, t-shirts and simple hair, like up in a ponytail instead of these salon-worthy/Rodeo Drive styles. What universe does Lizzie live in, that cheerleaders are popular? They are quite possibly the lowest on the social ladder at my school. Why does Kate, a popular cheerleader & the leader of "the popular clique", go out of her way to insult Lizzie? And those insults, they are just plain SAD. Not much character development here-Lizzie's a one dimensional, awful excuse for a 13/14-year-old girl but she was pretty much the same person from episode one to the last episode of Lizzie McGuire. Lizzie falling down and being a klutz is hilariously bad.
I know Hilary Duff had limited material to work with, but she is an absolutely awful actress. She moves stiffly, shows absolutely no emotion in most scenes, has the same two facial expressions, and overacts a lot as well. Honestly, probably one of the most awful actresses I have seen. She better thank her lucky stars that Hallee Hirsh (who was almost Lizzie) thought Lizzie was too shallow.
And why the hell does Hilary Duff think she can sing?
Veronica Mars (2004)
One of the best on TV- enticing premise, great writing and a cast who can actually ACT
Let's face it, almost every show on network television right now sucks. Shows today are terrible. The networks will put absolutely anything on the air. Finally, a show has arrived that doesn't make you want to bash your television set with a baseball bat. That show is Veronica Mars. Granted, Veronica Mars isn't my favourite show on TV, but it's one of my favourites. I must say, the very premise drew me in. VM is much less fake than say, The O.C. or Dawson's Creek. Veronica is a strong, well written, tough, kick-ass character who's less than perfect and has more dimensions than most 17/18 year olds depicted on television today since Buffy from Buffy the Vampire Slayer. But the main reason this show is so great is Kristen Bell who plays the title character,Veronica like the role has been made for her, she molds into character, although she is a tad old to be playing a teen (she's 25). There are few actresses out there like her. I doubt she will be nominated for an Emmy with this show, but she deserves one. At the very least she should get a Golden Globe for this show. I mean if so-called, awful actresses like Jennifer Garner can win a Golden Globe, there is no reason why Kristen Bell can't. She will have a long respected career, I predict. Heck, the whole cast is great, especially Amanda Seyfried (Lily, Veronica's murdered best friend) & Jason Dohring (Logan Echolls).
Probably what makes VM so appealing are the twists which catch you off guard. VM isn't exactly realistic all the time, but neither are most good TV shows. All in all, if you want a little mystery, & a little high school drama, then watch Veronica Mars.
So Little Time (2001)
Honestly the second-worst TV show I have ever grazed my precious eyes on
Let me be blunt. This show is a piece of garbage. People will most likely respond to my review as someone who 'didn't get' So Little Time. What really is there to 'get'? Critics and moviegoers alike swore by this film, and their praises were supposedly justified by Mary-Kate Olsen's Daytime Emmy nod. Let me say that this show was by no means worthy of the praise and awards it got. Watching show movie today let me FURTHER know how useless and unreliable the Emmy is in recognizing REAL shows. Just put So Little Time on the long list of shows unworthy of the awards & recognition it received.
I just don't see the big deal with So Little Time. Everything I saw just came off as cliched, worn out 'ideas', including crass overacting and a non-existent 'plot'. What was the point of this show? To give you a look inside a life of a teenage girl's head? Mary-Kate Olsen was just pathetic to watch, way too much overacting; just a sad, poor excuse of a 'performance'. The whole show is just silly. Yeah, because everyone lives on Malibu beach, problems get solved in a day or at the MOST 2. Real girls don't care about makeup, boys, clothes and money. God, I don't even know why these crappy actresses are on TV. I agree, kids will go for what's popular and what's 'okay' for them to watch (kid-friendly), not for what's talented and quality. What a load of dog crap this "show" is. Why are we supposed to care about two airheads when from the beginning when we are given no emotional reason to sympathize with them? If a car had hit them by surprise I would have cared more about the horror suffered by passing children? Ho-hum. How does this "show" fail for me"? Because it's unrealistic. I feel like hurling everytime I watch it.
I found both lead girls fairly terrible as the two "typical teenagers".
Laughable. That's the best way to describe "So Little Time." From beginning to end, this show is presented with cliche after cliche (every stereotypical teenage problem, including fashion, food fights, annoying geek boy friend, "hot" guys, make-up etc.). I often found myself chuckling at parts that had no intention of being funny at all. Not to mention the camera work. This movie just flies way over the top. This movie wasn't really my thing... there was nothing even decent about The Olsen twin's acting. They truly have no talent. The only episode I liked was the one where they were raising money for the animals. Nothing happens in the show, all it does is advetise the many problems in todays messed up society. Acting is horrendous and horrible and there's no story line or nothing interesting happens. There is NO mention of drugs and other "not-so-pretty" things. Real girls don't have life all perfect. I feel really sorry for anyone who has watched even one second of the show. The makers just went out of their way to paint these girls as pathetic, stupid, meaningless and empty they really are. Girls really don't care about make-up. There is NO peer pressure. This is one of the worst shows, tied with Lizzie McGuire with the worst and most overrated show of ALL TIME. This show is just a big piece of trash. What a load of bull crap. The directors and writers want to make the new Olsen project seem so hip and new age. Too bad. Because they failed horribly. I know a lot of people live in California and on the beach but that is where the drug taking and petty crime take place! Somehow, someway, the Olsens and the writers make it try and seem have actual Californian teens are! The "jokes" are so lame it's unbelievable. And to think about how many great TV show ideas have never gotten anywhere, you wonder how this big steaming pile of dog crap got onto the TV. The parents could not control a banana and let these girls get away with murder (not literally). The jokes are so lame I laugh at how lame they are. Every single joke is stupid, predictable and has been done AT LEAST 200 times before. This is definitely the worst Olsen thing I have seen. I would give this show at the VERY MOST -1000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000. I saw the pilot and a few other episodes and we all agreed that it was the worst Olsen thing we have ever seen!It has no message at the end or anything. This show is getting almost universally good reviews, and I'm not sure why. The writing has been extremely poor, the acting is bad at best and the story is quite predictable. The quirkiness seems pretty forced, and the main characters are total jerks! I wasted my time and it left me feeling like I had been beaten with a pipe. "Great show"-YEAH RIGHT!
Now it's been canceled, and the fans are up in arms. I watched all episodes that aired, and if it had continued I probably would have given it at least four more episodes to hit its stride. But I can't get worked up over the cancelation, except to say it's another example of a network not giving a show much of a chance. Still, just because it got canceled doesn't mean it was another "Freaks and Geeks" or "Sports Night." It just wasn't even decent.
ZERO out of **********
Casper Meets Wendy (1998)
WORST PIECE OF TRIPE EVER MADE!!!!!!!!!!
I saw this piece of s*** last November, and I have never turned the Television off in such disgust. Hilary Duff was absolutely horrendous as the "good" little witch. The film is gross, even for television. The film could have been cut to 1 hour, but not 1 1/2 wasted hours! This picture just goes to show that all Casper films are bitter, and was there really a need to wipe out the whole troop of ghosts? My god! The person who wrote this trash, should be blacklisted in Hollywood, and any other place that has acting as entertainment. This is entertainment?!! I have never seen such a horrible and depressing movie in all of my life!! This gives the term, "bad television-movie", look like "Gone with the Wind"!! I hope YTV NEVER shows this again!! For your sake, don't view this crap. See Pearl Harbor instead! Especially if you have 1 1/2 hours to kill, this certainly makes it look like a Best Picture Oscar winner!! Not this Garbage! Don't say you weren't warned!!!!
0/10 The lowest!!, The WORST!!!!!!! I watched Casper Meets Wendy to its bitten end,1 and a half grueling hours! You might ask why I watched to the end. Well, after sitting through the indescribably awful first ten minutes, I needed to see how this mess ended. Let me just say that when I shut my TV off at 11pm I was less than happy. Out of the 1602 movies I've voted on, one of the three I've given a rating of 1. Horrible. I began watching this film on YTV on a Sunday afternoon, with the understanding it was your standard hour TV movie. I thought the acting was terrible, the story line less than plausible, and the characters totally unlikeable.
The ending was unsatisfying, although unexpected (or was it really?) I can't believe I got caught up in the film.
