Torn Apart (1990)
Torn Apart "Trivia"
My favorite quote from the film was when Ben said this to Laila's cousin Mansour: "If a Jew wants to listen, shouldn't you (a Palestinian) be willing to talk?" But for me, the most interesting part of the film was in the commentary on the DVD, when they discussed the fact that the fight scenes became real by accident. See Jack Fisher's quote below. This was a very good film, and everyone should see it.
"The script went out the window when an extra 200 real Palestinians showed up." Mr. Fisher explains that they were responding to the call to prayer, and "the mosque was next to where we were shooting. They heard the shouting Arabs...I guarantee that what you see there is real," he continues. "I didn't have to tell them anything about Method acting. Somebody put a gash through Cecilia's forehead with a rifle, and Adrian was beaten up. The extras didn't know what was going on."
Cujo (1983)
If you were scared of dogs before you saw this movie...
I just watched this movie again on cable, and, frankly, it scared the bejesus out of me. I'm not great with dogs anyway, but a huge rabid St. Benard charging a woman and a 5-year-old makes dogs even more scary than they've ever been for me. This was a very well-crafted thriller, and it easily subscribes to the "less-is-more" syndrome. Any movie that is able to scare you without a ton of blood, a hockey mask, creepy monsters - or anything else in that gender of film - is definitely worth viewing. And this one stays with you LONG after the credits roll. The only thing I haven't ever understood is why Dee Wallace's character decides to get out or the car the first time AFTER she knows Cujo is there. Tadder is fine, and there's no reason to move, but I guess the plot needed a little shot in the arm... Well - rent this film, but keep the Valium close at hand and the lights on, so Tad's monster doesn't jump out of your closet.
