Kahaani (2012)
best thriller that has come by India so far.....
The story is of one pregnant Vidya Bagchi (Vidya Balan) who comes to Kolkata from London in search of her husband who was in India on an assignment but suddenly went missing. There is little that the cops can do since they are unable to trace any records of her husband in the guest house, office or even airport immigration. Things take a drastic turn when Vidya learns that her husband had a lookalike and perhaps that could get him closer to her search. But soon her personal quest turns into a political conspiracy.
Vidya Balan is the life of the film. She depicts the helpless yet brave pregnant woman very realistically. Parambrata Chattopadhyay, as Rana, is a discovery. He is superb as the young cop who falls in love with Vidya. Nawazuddin Siddiqui is memorable as Khan. Indraneil Sengupta does a fine job. Saswata Chatterjee (as the assailant, Bob Biswas) is just wonderful. Darshan Jariwala, Dhritiman Chatterjee and others offer able support.
Sujoy Ghosh's direction is very good. He makes the narrative engaging from the start to the end and extracts fine performances from his cast. However, his narrative style will appeal more to the city-based class audience. Vishal-Shekhar's music is very good. Setu's cinematography makes the nooks and crannies of Kolkata come alive. Production design, by Kaushik Das and Subrata Barik, is realistic.
On the whole, Kahaani is a very good entertainer which will pick up by word of mouth publicity.
Don 2 (2011)
what can i say.........THE KING ARISES..:)
Simple plot but the twists and turns in the movie were amazing.average story, excellent performances, and brilliant direction from Farhan.......the German stars like Florian Lukas,Rik sch mid, martin Georas,Wolfgang, sent Dorothea, frank Christian all were awesome.Shah Rukh Khan is the life of the film and charms his way into the audience's hearts. He shines in the role of Don and uses all the charisma at his command to make his character supremely endearing. His duologue delivery, facial expressions and wicked laughter add up to an enjoyable package. His attitude and body language are oh so endearing. Priyanka Chopra gets limited scope and is suitably restrained as the Interpol detective. She looks sexy. The cinematography by Jason West is striking. However Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy's musical score doesn't leave a mark this time and the background score has to repeatedly resort to the theme-piece from the original for some impact. Farhan Akhtar's punch-lines are initially amusing but with a Don-ism in every second line, it sounds hackneyed and hollow after a point.after all the movie is excellent definitely worth watch for SRK's brilliant performance and excellent direction from Farhan. Don 2 ends with the promise of Don 3 (that's what the number-plate of Don's bike reads) and the trademark duologue(It's not just difficult to catch don, it's impossible). But we would surely want to 'catch' up with a more worthy sequel to this. It's not impossible Farhan. Is it? I M WAITING Mr.FARHAN......
Agent Vinod (2012)
i expected more....
After 8 years Saif and Raghavan joined hands to bring forth, perhaps India's answer to Hollywood slick sly thrillers – 'Agent Vinod'. Want to know how it fared? Just read on
The plot seems interesting with Agent Vinod (Saif Ali Khan), an Indian intelligence RAW agent discovering the shocking plan of a terrorist group to kill millions with a nuclear suitcase bomb. Drawing a connection between a series of events that happen across the world, AV sets out on a mission traversing some 9 to 10 exotic countries of the world.
In the midst of his mission, Agent Vinod happens to meet undercover Pakistani ISI Agent Ruby (Kareena Kapoor), who pretends to be a doctor. Agent Vinod and Ruby have a common goal, but whether they will be able to crack the mystery and come to the rescue of people forms the rest of the story.
'Agent Vinod' sets out to revolutionise filmmaking in India. Sriram Raghavan's ode to the spy genre, his continued love affair with '70's Hindi cinema- 'Agent Vinod' is a genuine attempt at entertaining in a sensible manner. But it somehow falls short of being declared as a brilliant piece of work.
The first 30 minutes of the film are intriguing and simultaneously puzzling. It is bifurcated into sub-plots which make it somewhat confusing.
Kareena's character seems to have been inserted in the drama only to ensure that the there is the stereotypical romance in the narrative.
Saif Ali Khan described 'Agent Vinod' as Bond-meets-Bourne-meets-TinTin, but the makers seems to have neglected the finer nuances and perhaps that is the reason why the film fails to impress.
Dialogues are witty and breathe life into the film. The editing is slick and perfect to make the film seem crisp.
Watch 'Agent Vinod' for its stylish presentation, it hasn't got anything else to offer.
