That '70s Show Special: The Final Goodbye (2006)
What a great show!!
You really get the sensation of family among the cast. No infighting and ego trips. There has been no better ensemble cast than these people. The behind the scenes look at the show is great, but I wish they would have done this earlier on in its life. it is a poignant reminder of the family that wasn't a family. They are closer. Just the scene where the cast comes out at the end and they are all in tears speaks volumes. I miss it already.Well Done, Eric, Donna, Hyde, Fez, Kelso, Jackie, Kitty, Red, Leo, Bob, and Midge. Thank you for allowing a thirty-something to reminisce. This series had the ability to draw you in. You wanted to hang out in that basement with those guys. We have all known rebels, tomboys, princesses, and underdogs. At least someone we knew had a hard@ss father like Red and a mother who adopted every kid that graced her house in some way or another.
When the Levees Broke: A Requiem in Four Acts (2006)
biased and incomplete
Spike Lee has done an admirable job assessing the impact to the black community from hurricane Katrina. However, conspicuously omitted from his "documentary" are the areas of Lakeview (which was flooded as bad as anywhere else), Slidell which lost some 30,000 trees and several homes)I am surprised he did not allude to the crackpot theory that white people must have created Katrina as a way to punish minorities!! EVERYONE here was affected by Katrina. I think he should also interview the Mayors of Houston, Atlanta,Slidell and Phoenix and inquire as to how their violent crime statistics have skyrocketed from the influx of "victims" from New Orleans. There were genuine victims in Katrina and there was great suffering from ALL people of EVERY color, gender, age, vocation, and socio-economic status. Omitting an entire class of people from the victim category just adds insult to injury.
U-571 (2000)
insulting all around
This tripe was perpetuated by a director who has no appreciation for history, and who sets himself up as an authority on "what appeals to American moviegoers..forget for a moment the fact that the British first secured enigma from U-110. Forget also that there was only one incident in which Germans ever machine gunned survivors in the water and that was after the sinking of the Greek ship Peleus by one Heinz Eck, who, along with the ship's doctor and Executive officer were executed for this crime.( I guess we had to believe that the Germans were more sinister this way.) Forget also, that in Mostow's world, the laws of physics do not apply. I especially liked the scene where the torpedo is fired against the bow of the destroyer and the ship is stopped dead in its wake!! If you want a good Submarine movie, try Das Boot, or The Enemy Below. actuals, the incredible Mister limpet was more historically accurate than this garbage.
