Station 19: Bad Guy (2020)
Maya - the reason I watch this show
I normally post very in-depth reviews of shows but reading the above made me feel I needed to write a defensive review. Watching Maya's character develop across all 3 seasons so far is a highlight for this show and a credit to both the actress & writing team. I am excited to see her development in Season 3.
This show is a fantastic watch & undoubtedly the best "Fire fighter" drama that's been on TV (and I'm older enough to remember London's Burning). The cross overs between Greys & Station 19 always feel relevant & again a credit to the writing & production team.
Whilst Andy was technically the "lead" character we were introduced to in Greys Anatomy as part of the build up to the season 1 premier I feel both Vic & Maya are now just as important. The three of these characters have gone through so much with both positive & negative sides of their characters explored but that's what makes them relatable as we are all flawed but we are also all flawless.
More Beautiful for Having Been Broken (2019)
You need to see this very Special movie
Nicole Conn's unmissable and unforgettable More Beautiful for Having Been Broken hits you like a shot in the heart.
Smaller, independent films are gathering interest worldwide through international streaming sites and this movie is a prime example of why streaming sites are vital for the independent movie industry to be able to tell their stories without the constraints of the Hollywood Studios and this movie gives you the feeling of wings being spread, not clipped.
Written and directed with piercing intelligence and delicacy by Nicole Conn this movie is a treasure chest of talent with outstanding performances from the whole cast, a beautiful score, breath taking scenery beautifully crafted together with a great script full of emotion & humour.
The film is littered with beautiful extreme long shots of a McKenzie (Zoë Ventoura), an FBI agent on leave running literally and symbolically, alone through the mountains with the viewer never knowing if she is running to or from her demons.
Fans of Zoë in the wonderful Packed to the Rafters will see a very different performance as a she has matured into one of Australia's most charismatic actors whose presence on screen prevents you from looking away.
The chemistry between McKenzie and Samantha (Kayla Radomski) sizzles from their first meeting to the hypnotic dance scene, which is a potent fusion of an erotic dance and a battle as both women need to take control and lose control.
The backbone of the story is Freddie (played superbly by Cale Ferrin) the son of single Mum Samantha. His unbroken spirit, despite his condition, show's how rich his life is and how rich he makes everyone else's life just by being in it. Freddie is the sun that the residence of Lake Mervielle orbit around.
This is absolutely riveting cinema from the gorgeous mountain cinematography to artful dance sequences. The whole movie is a rich, spacious with a passionate way of showing, not telling, feelings. Yes at first glance this may be a movie for the LGBT community and I'm sure the majority of audience who see this film will be those faithful supporters but this is more than a "lesbian love story" it's a story of letting go, moving on and opening up.
The Coroner (2015)
Lightweight and Enjoyable Drama
It's interesting to read other reviews, the more negative one's I would take with a pinch of salt. Firstly Claire Goose was, as in all of the many shows she has starred in, Fantastic. Yes granted she didn't have the gritty scenes which she can play with passion but as an afternoon show the stories need to be more lightweight. The story lines were nice & compact I especially liked the verdict ending. The "love story" is building between the leads, perhaps a little rushed but again as it's a 45 minute afternoon show so it's difficult to get that intensity but it is likely that will be improved. The main supporting cast brought humour & added dynamic. The individual episode cast could be improved for Series 2 their inexperience did show compared to the recurring cast experience. The scenery & filming location was wonderful. I look forward to Series 2 but make sure you advertise if it wasn't for Sky Plus I'd have missed it.
