The Lobster (2015)
worthless drivel
The writer/director is such a pretentious loser. I can't believe this was actually made. People who think this movie is funny are mentally unstable. I should become a filmmaker. Just so I could meet this director so I could punch him in the face. Cinema is supposed to move, inspire, uplift in some way. Good cinema does this. If not, then you're trash and a waste of time. Just like this movie.
After 15 minutes I asked myself, why am I watching this? I'm falling asleep. This is boring and nauseating. How am I being influenced in a positive way? How is this helping better me as a person or aspiring filmmaker? If you're a masochist or psycho then this movie may be for you otherwise don't even bother.
One good thing is that the acting is OK I guess. I doesn't matter. I just didn't care about what was going on in the slightest.
The Hateful Eight (2015)
Maybe the time has come for QT to get a little taste of humble pie.
Tarantino once said something to the effect of how he wished certain directors would watch their older stuff to be reminded of the great movies they once made and that if he ever got to that point he'd consider quitting making movies. I can't recall the exact quote or source but something like that. Anyways, it looks like that time may have come for Tarantino. And it's a sad day in hell.
Depending on your tastes for westerns this could be considered Tarantino's weakest effort I guess. Having said that it's still OK. I enjoyed it to an extent. Vicious humor, intense story, etc. I want to talk about what I didn't like and what could have been done better. There's potentially a really good flick here but:
For what it is, it's too long. A) People need to say their lines faster. Don't get me wrong, I think Wall-E promotes ADD, but come on. I didn't see any real good reason to drag out dialogue so much like that. In fact it kind of makes you look like a jerk as a director. B) Cut out unnecessary stuff. If this was a tighter flick, closer to 2 hours, I'd bet my life people would have less issues with it.
Secondly, sometimes the film treats the audience a bit too stupid. Like the narration or the second shot of the gun under the table when Madson's character asks to sit down. Just unnecessary.
Thirdly, in an increasingly PC time, the psychosis and violence might not go over too well with people.
Overall, not sure if it's Tarantino's weakest. But maybe second weakest after Death Proof. Death proof had so much unnecessary dialogue but it was such a cool idea. I think, instead of threatening to quit and whining over projection, Tarantino should take his own advice. Then keep going. We love you buddy, just take a bite of humble pie sometimes and respect the audience.
My Sister's Keeper (2009)
completely ridiculous
How can anyone in their right mind watch this? After 15 minute I shut this off, it was so stupid. First of all the idea of having a child to be used as a donor to save another child is completely and utterly ridiculous. Yes, let's compromise the life of one child to save another. Oh, so it's not that much of a compromise, the donor girl is just going to have to take it easy that's all. So why is God damn's name would she be unwilling to save her sister's life. Because she wouldn't be able to do the things she wants? That's ridiculous. And how did the donor girl grow up so fast? All of a sudden bam, she's like 13. Yeah, real good story. What a waste of time.
Pandora's Promise (2013)
Obvious nuclear industry propaganda
This film assumes that the only alternatives to nuclear power are coal and other old and inefficient methods. This is a waste of time and space and pathetically researched if you could even call it that. Advocating nuclear energy is basically equivalent to advocating death to call civilization. That's what the sociopaths and psychopaths of the world want. They are trying to destroy the earth. But why the hell would anyone want to do that? That's a good question that needs to be answered. Why are sociopaths and psychopaths trying to destroy the planet? Because that's what they're doing isn't it? All these questions eventually lead to psychology. What does it mean to be a sociopath/psychopath? They can't seem to be able to treat others as they want to be treated. Maybe they hate themselves. I'm getting closer to the objective truth right now then you realize. That is the ultimate question. What is the objective truth? Ask yourselves this. I'll give you a heads up. We are immortal spiritual beings. We are here to raise the vibrational frequency of the planet. The physical reality is but a chemical reaction in the brain. The objective truth is spirit. The sociopaths don't know this or refuse to acknowledge it. Unfortunately they run most of society. Just keep spreading positive vibes. Do what you can. Advocate clean energy. Anyone intelligent knows that energy is free anyways.
Breakfast at Tiffany's (1961)
What a piece of crap
I'm an aspiring writer/filmmaker and I saw no value is watching this. Look, I can appreciate good films and these older flicks can be interesting and it's good to go through to avoid older clichés and whatnot but really they're useless. I can understand why people are reluctant to watch them. It's because they don't age well. Not all but most. Breakfast at Tiffany's hasn't aged well at all. What a boring, pretentious, racist, stupid film. I'm falling asleep here. I don't give two rat dicks about the characters. Performances and dialogue are a product of their stupid time. How is this film going to better me as a filmmaker? It isn't. Extremely boring waste of time.
Lucky Number Slevin (2006)
It's not bad. I wouldn't say it's amazing.
I agree with maxwellsmart. Read his review. It's good.
I enjoyed much of the dialogue. Not all of it. I don't particularly respond to witty movies as well as others I think. They tend to come across as "smart assy", like the writer is trying too hard to be smart for smart's sake as opposed to Tarantino, specifically Pulp Fiction, where the acting and dialogue feel more natural. There were a couple of moments of dialogue when I thought, damn I wish I came up with that. However it's kind of inconsistent. The story is OK. I like the idea of two rival gang leaders with offices across from each other. Some plot holes and unrealism exist. The setting was OK, it seemed kind of bland. Some weird/boring choices made for actors for some of the roles. I think if they took their time to do it, it could have been much better. But that's Hollywood. You can't take forever to make a film. But this one really had potential to be something bigger.
V (2009)
Typical of today's TV. Cold and calculated.
I'd never watch this show in a thousand years but it's kind of nostalgic for me and now it's grown on me a little. Overall it's an OK show. The problem is that everything is so cold and calculated. The show feels inorganic and sterile. Just relax people. Let the dialogue flow realistically. And why does everything happen so fast. Pretty typical of TV nowadays which is insulting to our attention span. Problems arise and solutions are brought forth and agreed upon almost instantly. Relax. At least let people deliberate and act realistically. Give us a more believable reason as to why anything is happening. This is why I don't really watch TV. It's too bogus. You got actors always head tilting, jaw clenching. Everything has to look perfect and flashy. It's gross film making.
The Ten Thousand Day War (1980)
Government propaganda
A friend gave this to me once. He gave me the entire DVD set. It was sitting in my box of movies for 5 years before I finally decided to watch it today. And I know now what I knew back then. This "historical documentary" is utter nonsense. There is no mention of the pentagon papers or any of the countless blatant government lies. Just like the official 9/11 story, this is typical Vietnam war government propaganda not unlike the old world war 1, 2 or any other war propaganda film from any era really. Anyone who thinks this is a legitimate piece of historical documentation should simply re-check the facts and their ignorance and lack of intelligence will soon be very apparent. Anyone half intelligent can already tell you that this "documentary" is utter garbage but I was just surprised at the number of people who are actually interested in this trash as a serious, historically accurate recount of events. Disheartening.
Skinwalkers (2006)
worthless garbage
How can anyone honestly say this is anywhere near a good movie. It's completely clichéd.
The acting is horrible. The dialogue is utterly clichéd. The gun fight choreography is completely clichéd and worthless i.e. everyone always has bad aim until when it counts. It looks like a made for TV movie. It throws in effects whenever it feels like it. What a waste of time and money to make this. It's a completely pointless movie. It's boring as hell.
I wasn't even sure I was watching the right movie for the first 30 minutes. This is a waste of life.
