Flåklypa Grand Prix (1975)
A true legend in puppet animation
This movie stands as one of the most legendary puppet movies ever created. Made in 1975 by two companions in my native Norway, it has become one of the most successful puppet animations ever made. I won't bore you with praise and praise for this movie, as I think all the reviews here have that. Suffice it to say, the movie is a genius, and is enjoyed by children and adults alike.
Here are some fun facts for those of you who have no idea about this movie:
1. It has sold 5.5 million tickets in Norway, and 23.6 million in Japan.
2. It took 3 years to make, and the uncut version is almost 5 hours long. Needless to say, they had to trim it, and ended up with the legend we know today. No other version exists, and never will exist.
3. A real life replica of Il Tempo Gigante is parked in our national museum in Hamar, Norway, and is 6.5m long and weights 2.2 tons, has 550 horsepower engine and top speed of 250km/h. Not bad for a home made car from 1975.
4. The car is reported to have 2000 horsepower engine in the movie, with a top speed of "it wont be a slow one in traffic".
5. The car has two speedometers, where one ends at 250 km/h and another takes over.
6. The pod racing scene from Star Wars episode 1 is a nod to this movie, and George Lucas went to Norway to find out how they did it in this movie in order to recreate it the same way.
7. Shown on TV every Christmas Eve for the last 35 years in Norway.
Thats just some of it. Its a movie that belongs in any collection. Its been translated into a lot of different languages, so everyone can enjoy it.
Rating 10000/10 :)
Godzilla (2014)
I liked it..
Alright, I have been reading a lot of reviews for this one, and to be honest, I feel that a lot of people actually don't understand why movies like these are made. That is a shame, because Godzilla (2014) is on the top list of recent monster movies, only topped by the supreme Pacific Rim.
So, let's see for a bit about what this movie is about, shall we? The story revolves around two MUTOs (other huge monsters) which are born from radiation that mankind actually are responsible for, and when they hatch, wreaking havoc everywhere, nature sends it's policeman, meaning Godzilla, to clean up the mess. That is, boys and girls, in short what this movie is about.
It's 2 hours of pure camp fun, seeing three huge monsters battle it out. And, of course, we also have a large portion of the movie dedicated to all the humans who simply don't understand Godzilla's role in all this mayhem.
Is it an Oscar worthy movie? Not really, as its not a deep and profound movie at all. Is it fun? Indeed it is. And well worth 2 hours of your time, if destruction and mayhem is your forte. I liked it a lot, and have seen it a few times now.
The animations of this movie is simply breathtaking, the destruction is well detailed as well as the towering sizes of the monsters. Yes, there are glitches of course, because nobody can make a perfect movie (meaning one without mistakes). But who cares? Its FUN FUN FUN. Take it for what it is. Its ENTERTAINMENT people, pure and simple. If you don't like monster movies, don't see one. Its that easy. Stop trolling here...
One has to realize that movies like this is made for entertainment, and to keep us entertained for a few hours. And it does the job perfectly, like many other blockbusters. Stop being so serious and just lean back and enjoy. You might like it :)
Der Kuß meiner Schwester (2000)
Fantastic movie about a taboo relationship
I was lucky enough to catch this gem of a movie on Norwegian television some time back, which probably made it much easier for me as it was subbed in my language, as opposed to many others who have watched this in various dubbed versions.
Anyway, this German movie in short revolves around a brother and a sister who rarely gets to see each other, except for one summer when they spend all their time together out of sheer boredom. During this time, their sibling love starts to grow deeper, and before you know it, they are boyfriend/girlfriend. After a while, of course, they break the ultimate taboo about sibling incest, but the whole theme is handled so delicately and so beautifully that you come to understand and sympathize with the siblings in their actions.
I think the movie tries to explore how a relationship like this can develop and mature, and in that they really succeed. Considering the budget of this made-for-TV movie, its amazing what they have been able to do with it.
The story is rock solid, the actors are very good and portray their characters with ease (especially the siblings who do such a wonderful job), and in the end its well worth your time to watch. Anyone who likes a movie that actually have a deeper meaning and a solid story should check this movie out. You will not be disappointed.
Top notch and world class. 10/10.
