Man of Steel (2013)
A short unbiased review of Man of Steel
Man of Steel at the time of this review has an 8.4. This will undoubtedly go down as more people see it but for now the reason is people that love superman are reviewing it, as for me I am indifferent. I like superman but he is not my favorite superhero and I went into this movie pretty blind. I had high hopes for this film in the hands of Zack Snyder and having Michael Shannon in there but sadly it didn't live up to those expectations. Zack Snyder has this talent for making films that are almost good but never quite there and that's how I feel about Man of Steel. It had great action that made you feel every punch and laser blast but too much of it. I don't care of Snyder was "pleasing" the fans, it was TOO MUCH. It didn't need to be 2 hours and 30 minutes, there was always things happening but oddly enough a lot of it felt like filler, in disposable scenes. The acting was decent but I felt like Michael Shannon wasn't right for this part. I love Michael Shannon but his talent is for the subdued menacing guy not the constantly screaming villain. It didn't work for me. The writing was pretty sappy at a lot of parts but a few good lines were in there, especially for Kevin Costner. I didn't hate it, and I definitely didn't like it. 4/10
Charley-One-Eye (1973)
Wow
What an overlooked gem this film is. This is a great movie, for a few reasons. One is the acting, when you start this movie you may think god, this acting is atrociously over the top with the characters laughing hysterically for seemingly no reason and the less than natural dialogue. But Ben is just a free soul on the run who is lovable in every way. And the Indian starts as a stoic, cold character then becomes free willing and funny character, the arc is beautiful. This film's plot isn't the best but it gets the job done but it's really about the characters. The villain in this film is great, bringing a new layer of creepiness and intensity to this movie, which amazingly segwayed from a fun, sometimes dark movie to an all out melodrama. As soon as he cocks his gun at the church door, you know this won't end well. Without giving anything else away this is a fantastic diamond in the rough and is DEFINITELY worth a watch.
Fun & Fancy Free (1947)
Nostalgic
I watched this as a kid and every time I see it I just get taken back to when everything was more simple, and beautiful. Great animation, and message. Thank you Disney you made my childhood what it is today. It really should be respected higher. It is classic. The songs, the characters. Even still toady I still sing Goofy's song. And Bongo the circus bear. So much character and nothing said at all. One of Disney's best and should be on IMDb's top 250. And the ending with the Giant and coming through the roof I was so terrified of that when I saw that as a child. The ventriloquism was great to, that little girl was good as well I wonder who she was.... 10/10
Goon (2011)
All the making of a good film, and executes it almost to perfection.
Goon has a certain uniqueness to it, it has all the aspects of a good film and it is a good film. It is fun, and very heartfelt. I love this character, and actually felt for him. Maybe sometimes Sean William Scott occasionally put to much out there, reinforces that you are supposed to like this character maybe too much, but still he does it well. Me personally I know hockey, I watch it and know the rules. Near the end especially they there are things that you just don't believe would happen, but then again it is a comedy and no one said it had to be realistic. I also have to comment on how brutal the fights were for a comedy. I mean Jesus they were intense, harsh fights. All around good comedy got all that it could out of it, and that was a lot. Good main character, supporting cast, and directing. 9.5/10
