The Walking Dead: The Cell (2016)
The Cell and Darryl's 3 Choices
You've been given enough time to watch season 7 episode 3; The Cell. But, if you haven't please scroll along!
OK,
Many of you have told me how you feel like The Walking Dead has gotten SO boring and that you're about to give up. My question to you is, are you serious? Last week we had some character building going on and this week was no different. We finally got to see what the Saviors have been doing to Darryl and we understand a little better why Dwight is the way he is. You see, Dwight, when we first met him, thought he was doing the right thing by getting away from Negan's group. After all, he had his wife and her sister to protect but after seeing they had nowhere to go, they returned back to Negan with terrible consequences. Sherry's sister was now dead (that's who Negan really wanted) and Sherry now had to sacrifice herself in order for them to stay alive. But, there is always punishment and it was Dwight's face and manhood that seems to take the hit, possibly literally. Reek anyone?
In this episode, you see not only Dwight almost pleading with Darryl to submit to Negan but even Sherry does the same thing at great risk to herself. Dwight seems torn on what to do with Darryl. There only three choices for Darryl: 1) Daryl could work for Negan as a dead man in the pen. 2) He could "work for points" but wish he was dead. Or 3) he could work for Negan outright and "live like a king." It appeared as though he wanted Darryl to give in and make it easier on himself, but I'm wondering what will be the consequences to Dwight if he can't break Darryl? He hasn't earned this, yet. It seems that as more time passes in the shadow of Negan, the more his resentment and jealousy grows.
Darryl is going to have to change is world view in order to get himself out of this or Negan just may grow tired of toying with him and allow Lucille to quench her thirst!
We have a hour and half coming up for the next episode, so hang it there and remember, we always character build. It's a must!
The Walking Dead: The Day Will Come When You Won't Be (2016)
The Brutality of Negan
If you're reading this then I think it's safe to say that you have seen or at least heard about what happened last night. If you haven't please stop reading now because this path is so very dark that even sunlight would have a tough time lighting it up. But we must carry on, right?
Here we go.
I had already known who the victims were going to be for months now and even tried to prepare some of you without spoiling it but the way this went down was just beyond brutal. Before I continue, these actors deserve an award for what they did in this episode! The writers are already twisted, we get that, but the way these actors laid it out was art at it's finest.
So, we left off last season with out favorites, on their knees, in a semi circle about to discover the fate for one of them. At least it was supposed to be one of them. We get through the "Enie, meanie" stuff a bunch of talking and speeches and then "moe" is chosen. Although it takes some time to figure out who it was (to the frustration of many in the audience) we finally discover who is was. Abraham, knowing and accepting his fate, is straight backed and throws out a sign to Sasha (did you catch it?) takes the first hit and tells Negan what he can do with balls. This was beyond awful! The hits kept coming long after he could have possibly been alive. His head wasn't even distinguishable! OK, got through that one, barely.
Next was the taunting Negan was doing to Rosita after he realized who Abraham was to her. Just as it seemed that she was going to do as Negan said, Darryl with his emotional eruption lands a hit on Negan right before the goons grab him and take him down. Why Darryl! Man you already know this is not going to end well for someone. Negan now has to demonstrate that he's a man of his word. And he has to make sure they get the message.
'I'll find you, I'll be with you, I'll watch over you. I'll be there.' Those would be the words that Glenn could barely mumble to Maggie after Lucille came down upon his head. Maybe because I'm so attached to this character that I felt sick and offended at the brutality of the attack. The sound effects were monstrous!
Then there was the Rick and Negan's boy's contest using Carl as the boy! And it did seem as though Rick would follow through with Negan's demand to chop off Carl's arm. Thankfully, the "look" Negan was seeking appeared on Rick's face by the time Negan reached number 3, sparing Carl.
What really got to me was after the Saviors left and Maggie let it all out. Her anger, rage and overwhelming grief. And although she wanted to take care of her husband alone, the rest of the group gently reminded her that Glenn was their family, too. I died right there!
Next week will certainly be an adjustment, but you know we must push through it.
The Walking Dead: The Well (2016)
What a Fantasy We Live
If you haven't already seen The Walking Dead season 7 episode 2; "The Well", then for your protection, please look away.
OK, let's jump into this!
After the traumatizing week we had after the episode one; "The Day Will Come When You Won't Be", this was much lighter and quite frankly, boring. I don't really care for the stand alone episodes, but there was information to be learned about the new group our people have encountered. My favorite part was the introduction of Carol to Ezekiel and Shiva! That was hysterical! With her "I don't know what the hell is going on is the most wonderful way!" line, was just perfect!
Carol is still very much conflicted about what direction she wants to go in and initially thinks it would be better to go at it alone. Who would have thought that it would be this larger than life of a character, Ezekiel that would convince her that she could "leave or not leave."? What a conundrum! Remember, nothing is shown to us in error so we should have read into the house they past as they were initially heading into the Kingdom. Morgan marking the way and flagging the house. For Carol's flashes between walkers and humans, they actually used multiple sets of twins to complete those flash scenes. Pretty cool, right?
While Carol's reaction to Ezekiel was priceless, Ezekiel calling Carol out on her BS was, too. Both Ezekiel and Carol wear these masks and as the saying goes, 'you can't bullshit a bullshit artist'. The fruit scene should have been telling; Ezekiel pointing out to Carol that the offering a pomegranate is "sweetness surrounded by bitter and require extra effort", just like Carol! Even though Morgan had his role to play in this episode, it came across as marginalized. Yes, we all know how Morgan doesn't want to kill but we also know that isn't afraid to. While all life may be precious, those lives lose their exclusivity when they are trying to kill someone he loves. Yes, Carol, he loves you!
Once it became known the The Kingdom was trading with The Saviors, everything snapped into place. The horror that Morgan had when they were being instructed to round up the pigs and then allowed them to feast on the dead; to fill their bellies, was pretty disturbing until you discovered why they were doing that. Ezekiel may come across as simple and naive, but he's far from it. He has that dark side that he keeps hidden. Watch for that later. Yes, they may have to work with The Saviors, but they don't have to be nice about it. It's not like The Saviors are anything more than glorified bullies. I can't wait for their day to come. Another thing to keep in mind about this new group is that nothing is for free. If you take from the well, you must give back to the well.
Next week looks like we'll be reunited with some of our group which may mean the feels will be back in full force. The guilt; the anger and the defeat they must all be experiencing has to be unbearable. Just a few more days to go, until then!
