Champions (2023)
The Critics just don't know
If you've ever spent time with adults with developmental or intellectual differences, maybe you'll enjoy this movie more than the critics who didn't get it. Old school, obvious jams? We'll, yeah! Basketball plus people who like familiar music. Some dialogue seems practiced? Yes, it can be common. People acting goofy when they're happy? That was my favourite part of work💓. I watch a lot of dark material, but this was buoyant and fun. I don't find it "forgettable", if nothing else because there aren't enough. *actual* diverse films with a diverse cast. Yes, there are plenty of "jerk out of water" films, but this was one a pleasure to watch. Plus, basketball! 😀
The Walking Dead: World Beyond (2020)
TWD fans need to watch till the end
If you didn't read the series, and have been wondering what happened to Rick, and who the Black Helicopters belonged to, TWD World Beyond is worth watching. The first season is pretty painful, focusing mainly on a group of super annoying youth with no life experiences or where with all. It's frustrating to have so few Walker scenes, or encounters where characters just *push* Walkers out of their way to escape. However, the payoff by early Season 2 is worth the pain. The teens have no one to trust, the adults are shifty and frequently lying for a myriad of reasons, and the communities introduced have secrets at their cores. I binged the second season in 3 sittings, as I hoped to catch a glimpse of other TWD characters, but Jadis is assuredly the best and worst character to have been reintroduced.
