The Phantom of the Opera (2004)
A Brilliant adaptation
Well pinch me I must be dreaming, Joel Schumacher hs made a masterpiece? I am not dreaming and I can tell you it is true. This is everything a musical movie should be, fantastic songs, amazing sets and wonderful acting.
I have seen the stage show once and enjoyed it a lot, but the movie just blew me away, it was so lavish and gorgeous I was floating in mid air or at least it felt like it. Emmy Rossum steals the show as Christine the beautiful young ingenue, she has the voice of an angel and her gorgeous youthful looks and innocence make for a wonderful performance. Gerard Butler doesn't have an amazing voice, but for what he lacks in singing he makes up for in acting. The supporting cast are great too, especially Minnie Driver who is HILARIOUS as La Carlotta.
I loved this movie but there are bound to be haters who hate webber or schumacher, my advice go in with an open mind and let the images and music captivate you.

Catwoman (2004)
a remarkable piece of film making
Having gotten the chance to see this film a whole month before it is out in Australia, I am very pleased to review it.
This is a remarkable film for all involved. Comic purists might dislike the fact the characters origins have been changed but they have been changed for the better.
This film truly represents what Catwoman is suppose to be, half woman, half cat. Halle Berry is simply astonishing as Patience/Catwoman, before she is Catwoman she shows us a remarkable and weak character and truly embodies the character, and when she becomes Catwoman WOW! she is amazing!.
Sharon Stone is also superb but the real greatness is the script, the script, in my opinion is Oscar worthy, it is perhaps the most complex and beautiful script since American Beauty.
All in all Catwoman is a masterpiece and by far the best superhero film ever made. 10/10
Shrek 2 (2004)
Shrek 2 is a sequel and boy does it show.
I wasn't a huge fan of the original Shrek but I admit that I enjoyed it a lot, sadly the sequel leaves a lot to be desired. The jokes (which I might add had the audience in stitches) failed to move me, everything about the film felt forced and overdone, which may of been the intention of the film makers but the first one did it in a far superior way.
But on the plus side Antonio Banderas is brilliant and Jennifer Saunders is fantastic (her Holding out for a hero number is fantastic, who knew she had such a great voice?)
All in all a pretty tired effort.

Thirteen (2003)
A stunning portrayal of teen angst
Thirteen is the first film from Catherine Hardwick and it is a stunning debut. Some have said things about this film such as "Thirteen year olds would never do such things" to those people open your eyes. Children turn into Teenagers quickly and the most dramatic changes are occuring extremely early.
Thirteen goes deeply into all the issues facing Teenage girls such as sex, drugs , looks and peer pressure and presents with amazing realism.
Evan Rachael Wood is stunning as the once pure and innocent Tracy who goes wild when she meets Evie. Nikki Reed who plays Evie shows fantastic depth and it's a great debut from who's life the film is based on. Holly Hunter is perfect as the Mother who loves her kids more than anything , but isn't 100% capable of raising them.
Thirteen could be passed off as a film made to shock , it has these girls doing drugs , having sex , stealing. You name it they do it, but all this happens to Teenagers whether we like it or not and in terms of trying to bring all of this to the screen, Thirteen succeeds with flying colours.

Kill Bill: Vol. 1 (2003)
After six years he has returned!
I have to admit I was rather dissapointed with Jackie Brown but after six years of waiting I must say Kill Bill is awesome.
Tarantino has finally made his ultimate dream film , gore , samurais and chicks kicking ass ... meaning if you hate tarantino you will hate this.
Fantastic all the way and Uma is brilliant.
