The Man with the Iron Fists (2012)
I would have been better off throwing $11.50 down a well.
This movie is so awful, I decided to sign up for IMDb just to write this review and save you all from the regret you will feel after wasting the time and money to watch this.
As far as cinematics go, the acting was sub-par. The action sequences were poorly choreographed almost to the point where you can envision stunt rigging hanging from the limbs of the combatants. There is nothing even remotely interesting about the plot, it's predictable and just plain bad. The movie feels choppy and well... the director is horrible, no other way to put it. Then again, RZA is essentially just another flavor flav. If you want an real martial arts action film, there are hundreds of them produced in HK/China every year, just go to the foreign films section of Netflix or Blockbuster. If you want Quentin, watch Grindhouse.
Whats more, the director, RZA is a racist and yes, he is of a minority ethnic persuasion. Chinese people are portrayed as Mongol savages throughout the movie. There is an African fellow working as a blacksmith in British colonial China. There also happens to be a lone British officer wandering about what is described as a "jungle village" and there happens to be (conveniently) a classy brothel in the center of it all, reminiscent of Hong Kong during this time period. This is culturally, geographically, and historically incorrect. RZA manages to warp 4 separate parts of the globe from potentially different time periods, into one village.
Oh whats more, the treatment of the African man's arm amputations is inaccurate to say the least. Cauterizing the wound like they do would lead to infection and certain death. 19th century medical knowledge was certainly better than what is depicted in the movie.
What's more? LUCY LIU CANT SPEAK MANDARIN WORTH SHIFT. She should seriously stick to English speaking roles.
All this is due to ignorance on the part of the person who wrote the script RZA, but then again, he has just about the same education level as Flavor Flav. What more can you expect.
Honestly, as a Chinese-American and educated person, I was thoroughly insulted by this film.
9/Tenths (2006)
............9/tenths of the budget went towards the sex scene
** before reading - I didn't know which words were 'prohibited' - so I changed everything that might have been thus some sentences sound a little funny - please use your imagination ****** Because thats probably the only thing in this film that cost them money. No but seriously, - long story short, a post-apocalypse film and how all of a sudden the only thing that matters are survival skills and some stuff about role reversal - poor man becomes the rich man due to his survival skills etc. etc. The wealthy couple rightfully owns a farm which the ranch hand steals by force and then the ranch hand steals the man's wife. Honestly, I feel for the wealthy man and really hoped he would just kill the ranch hand which he had every right and opportunity to do. There are so many moments where I was just screaming at the screen telling him to swing an ax or knife at the unsuspecting ranch hand. The whole plot is stupid and does not many any realistic or logical sense. If I were in his situation I'd just kill one of the sheep and eat it. pardon my language - this movie really annoyed me off.
But what annoyed me off even more was the OBVIOUS heart that is bleeding blueism **** that is the underlying message of this film. Honestly, in a post-apocalypse world - yes, survival skills, being good at hard manual labor is more valuable than any professional degree - but WE Don't LIVE IN SUCH A WORLD!! Thats why poor people are poor. If I had a ton of copper and tried to sell it to you at the same price as gold with the excuse 'in some hypothetical world copper is the rarest metal and is necessary for the production of the most advanced technologies' would you buy it? NO WAY.
So please - get real - and sorry, pardon the blunt nature of my review, but honestly, these movies peeve me.
