Linda's Film on Menstruation (1974)
Campy
Given the fact that this film is nearly 40 years old and that it "stars" a very young Jonathan Banks (Wiseguy, Breaking Bad, Beverly Hills Cop, etc.) it's downright hilarious. Judy was played by the daughter of Frances Heflin (who played Mona for eons on All My Children).
Judy announces to Johnny (Banks) in the bowling alley that "blood is flowing out of my uterus". Johnny looks like he's going to throw up for half the film (poor guy, can you blame him? All his girlfriend wants to talk about is her period). We're treated to diagrams, cartoons and interviews with people in the street, all on the topic of menstruation.
Johnny mispronounces 'menstruation' 50% of the time, but like any good character, he evolves and grows, so that by the end, he proudly announces: "Who would have thought it? Just seven short days I ago there I was, an innocent dumbbell kid. Now here I am, able to buy sanitary napkins without flinching." I can just imagine Wiseguy's Frank McPike sticking his head off the side of the boat and howling when Judy mentions her period for the umpteenth time.
BTW, Judy is supposed to be 15. Banks was 27 when he made this short film. Hmmmm... Can you say "jail bait"?
