The Marvels (2023)
So funny I watched it twice in theater.
Ms. Marvel is the top Marvel hero at the moment for me. Add Brie Larsons Down-To-Earth Captain Marvel and one of her childhood friends from her own movie and BOOM! You got the best comic movie in a long time.
I'd like to inform all superhero movie purists, that it is a COMIC movie featuring superheroes. As a comic movie is not supposed to be your all-action no-fun movie, but a comical action movie.
The comical spirit of Ms Marvel versus Captain Marvels and Captain Rambeau's disciplined spirit is the best combo, I thought we would never see from Marvel anymore, with the Guardians as the only exception. But it seems I was wrong and it seems that James Gunn finally has competition in Nia DaCosta at Marvel.
I'm already looking forward to Adil and Bilals second season of Ms Marvel.
The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes (2023)
Where's the rest of chapter 1?
Although I found it as a great movie, it is the first Hunger Games installment missing vital parts from the book.
In the first chapter of the book, we meet Coryo Snow in his most weakest financial times. Yet all that was used to depict his poor financial state was all left in the details. Next to that, they kept his almost vital visits to the hospital to visit his classmates out of the movie. Thanks to that, Coryo Snow is almost depicted as inhuman and as the sociopath he died like.
All 3 chapters in the book are all evenly divided, while the movie only takes 10 to 15 minutes to feature chapter 1 and almost completely showed everything from chapter 2. Chapter 3 was okay, as they chose not to use a narrator, it would've been difficult to depict his thoughts for all he did.
Het geheugenspel (2023)
Straight to the point and thrilling till the end.
Finally a Clue(do) movie that immediately spreads out the whole board, including the murder and all characters, yet keeps the thrill till the very end.
AND has zero clichés that could or would spill the tea.
It tells the story of a girl who was murdered 1 quarter of a century ago, yet wasn't found until the very first 5 minutes. The main character plays the best friend of the victim, yet has forgotten or erased every special detail needed to fullfil the investigation from her mind. After one of her colleagues suggest a hypnotherapist, she gets a splinter of a detail after each session.
And the best part of the movie is that only the necessary details of each character is given to us, while keeping the rest of most characters a mystery. Which avoids all prejudice until necessary.
The Whale (2022)
How to change breathtaking to a whole new level
Although this movie can be put in a small foreword. That foreword won't tell this story, as the thing that makes this movie so good and spectacular is everything between those lines.
To simply put it as 1 movie, 1 room, 6 characters and 1 helluva story won't sell much tickets. Yet this one might just do that in a few breaths.
I might now spoil 1 of those few characters, but although this character had just a few lines in this story, this character actually broke me. So imagine you're a delivery guy who delivers take-out for two 5 days in a row but doesn't even see who he's delivering to. He just gets instructions by someone from inside on how to deliver and how to get his money. Yet on the fifth day the mystery evolves into a hard dillema as you hear some very painful breathing. And when you want to help the buyer says he's okay twice. Now you're in an even harder dillema. Will you just stay a bit further on the balcony and see if he's still okay or will you just get on with your job? So what if you choose option 1 and find out that you are delivering to 1 obese man who's painful breathing you've just heard. Imagine what would go through your head. (It even makes me cry just writing this)
So if any actor or actress can ever be given a character with just a few repetitive lines, but such a hard impact. Imagine how good this movie could be.
P.s. The whole new level of breathtaking in this movie is the fact that you can just hear the main character breathing in almost 97% of this movie. So let that sync in when you watch this movie.
P.s. Sorry for that pun, I just had to add a smile to my tears.
The Batman (2022)
How Batman Vs Hush became Batman Vs The Riddler
What makes Batman stand out as the best known superhero isn't his riches, isn't his heritage, isn't his darkness. It's not even Batman himself that makes him stand out as the best known superhero. His legacy of (super)villains however does.
Ask anyone to name even 2 villains of their favorite superhero and the chance you won't know 1 of those villains is big.
However with Batman as well as Spiderman the chances you won't know the 2 villains is close to non-existent.
Yet Matt Reeves doesn't know who The Riddler or Hush is. Both have the same MO, yet one kills and one doesn't. And Matt Reeves thought it was a good idea to mix these up. To the normal public he might have made a great movie, but to me he just made the worst mistake anyone can make involving one out of two of the worlds best known superheroes.
P.s. I don't even want to mention what he did wrong with Selina Kyle/Catwoman due to spoilers. But man did he just screw up every character in this movie.
To Matt Reeves: Read some comics of the characters you'll use before making a movie about them. And please for the love of god, don't say yes to everything you're given the opportunity to.
Infinite (2021)
Why can't Mark Wahlberg do bad movies?
Wonderful movie, just like any other movie with Mark Wahlberg. Would recommend it to anyone. Don't let anybody tell you otherwise.
Shadow in the Cloud (2020)
Just another covid movie
Why is it that covid not only ruins our life, but also our movies. This movie just feels like it was filmed in 1 single garage for at least 90 percent of the time.
Jolt (2021)
An action movie on steroids
An action movie on steroids, just the way I like them. This movie takes you on a pretty rough adrenaline rush, only to stop right at the end of the credits. It has been a very long time since I have seen an action movie that pulls me into the story and keeps me in for the whole story without too many stops, almost none actually.
The Forever Purge (2021)
Not the best Purge movie, but certainly the most realistic
This is the most realistic Purge movie that just shows exactly how anarchy would be if it was forever and eternal. While this movie doesn't show you the small rulebreakers that were just purging to kill just 1 guy or to be exhibitionistic of some sort, nor does it show the excentric purgers and I guess that is why it's rating is just a little bit lower. But that absolutely doesn't mean you can skip this one.
Mortal Kombat (2021)
Covid killed this movie
The movie would have been great even perfect, if the actors weren't more afraid of each other than their actual characters. During each battle you can't see more than 4, sometimes 5, people in the same shot and the fights were either too short, with too much space between and bad CGI or non existent.
This movie should have been shot during easier periods for shooting the scenes and never been done this fast. It almost feels like a video game that was released too soon and full of bugs.
Tenet (2020)
Just as interesting as Inception
Awesome movie that just like Inception needs your interest to follow and rewards you for doing so. Great movie.
The New Mutants (2020)
I've already seen this. Didn't I?
I liked the movie. It was a tidy bit like a weird horror movie, werein the protagonists also had powers. But to me the movie just felt like the Second season of Doom Patrol with a somewhat different ending. The main protagonist, Danielle Moonstar, felt like an exact copy of Dorothy. In the beginning of season 2 of Doom Patrol most of the protagonists don't know her power and at the end she unleashes all her power without her own will and the same goes for Danielle Moonstar. Therefor I only gave it a 6/10, because I've seen it all with known characters.
The Aftermath (2019)
Great acting, bad story.
Not sure what the plot was. Perhaps showing how bad both parties look and behave to each other. I've even had to recap the last 15 minutes just to think what the ending should mean and still didn't find out what it was for.
Hevi reissu (2018)
Not bad at all!
Although the trailer and the language scared me off at the Ensors (movie prizes at the film festival of Ostend, Belgium), I simply watch it with zero expectations. To keep it short, it was way, way, way better than expected.
Great comedy mixed with music that most people tend to keep away.
After (2019)
Good storyline, great performance.
It perfectly indicates how one can change by changing school or moving from high school to college.
Just too bad that they've named 1 of the antagonists after a drug.
The Prodigy (2019)
Gives you another perspective on reincarnation.
Nice perspective about reincarnation. Before this most people only thought about reincarnation as of rebirth in someone or something else without that much of knowledge of your previous life. This movie puts the latter on the side to think about a way to end your bucket list or unsettled score after dead.
The Head Hunter (2018)
No action, nor horror
The trailer is good and gives you the thrills of a monster that won't be seen. If it would have had some good action in it, I would have loved it. But all action was absent with the exception of 1 weird chace after 1 even weirder monster.
Happy Death Day 2 U (2019)
Best comedy-horror ever.
Every time she comes back it gets funnier. Best 100 minutes of my life.
Glass (2019)
Let it all sink in?
This movie should not be seen as thé next Superhero movie.
Reason 1: There's no bad guy, government or whatsoever.
Reason 2: This movie has a good and unique storyline for once.
Reason 3: The people that were shown as some kind of superhero weren't in fact superheroes, but simply extraordinary people doing extraordinary things.
All that aside, this movie was good. It kept you looking for clues and the moment you found another clue, one character showed it to you.
At the end of the movie the whole puzzle comes together and gives you this wonderful feeling you just might as well needed.
Escape Room (2019)
Not your typical escape room movie.
Who thought that a good horror movie needed at least 1 barbie doll and 1 American football-player? This shows that the opposite might work better.
I went to the cinema without looking at the trailer and hoping for a good horror movie this time. Well I've got what I wished for.
With an escape room movie you guess to see many puzzles. Well this one hasn't that much puzzles. The smart girl didn't even need to use her brains that much, she simply had to follow logic. Now that's how every escape room movie should look like.
Loved it.
Ride (2018)
Not my kinda movie.
Not my kinda movie. The story itself was good. The timing of the events was good. But the pace and the close to empty stories at the beginning were not that good.
If you need to kill some time and watch a good story unfolding then this is your movie.
If you don't want to waste time on a slow pace movie, even if it lasts only 1 hour, then I'd suggest looking for another movie.
Do You Believe? (2015)
An unbelievable good movie.
I've watched this movie just now and still am crying. Although I'm not someone who could even try to cry. Only for that I've chosen to give it my very own first 10/10.
Besides the fact that it made me cry, it made me realize that every good thing could give you tons of joy, while every bad thing should give you remorse.
So I'm glad that they made a movie like this and probably will make more. Because it is not just one of the best movies of the year for me, but one of the best movies ever made. And I've seen plenty, like at least one movie a day.
P.S. To the producers and director please go on to make such a wonderful movies?
