Of course he prefers her sister...
29 July 2021
His wife is not very attractive.

This would have been a better movie if there was more attention paid to the Danish Freedom fighters during the war. Instead there is a 4 year gap in the story from 1941-1945.

Every episode a feminist lovefest....

Makes it look like all the men in Finland have totally abdicated to manipulative, dominating women who value their careers more than their children.

A decent show but...
13 June 2021
Warning: Spoilers
If you are an American living in the USA it's really hard to watch because the police procedures are so imbecillic compared to what we expect them to be. Officers physically abuse suspects and each other, subordinates yell at their superiors, rich people physically abuse poor people, and when unhappy kick their employees in the knees, and officers are allowed a lot of leeway without being suspended for bad behavior. Also, the cops are very hesitant about using their firearms to end a conflict with criminals; even in life and death situations. Come on guys, shoot him...in the head, the arm, the leg, something. Sometimes the head of the Center responds immediately to information or situations. Other times she stands frozen like a deer in the headlights prompting the viewer to scream, "Do something!"

I love the show but...

Warning: Spoilers
How is it possible during the Season 3 story that no one from either police department caps on what a proficient marksman the murderer is. Consistently discharges 3 rapid fire shots within a 6 inch circle on numerous victims and nobody ever makes that part of the criterion for identifying the murderer.

Hitchcock's Rear Window redux...
14 May 2021
There are enough new wrinkles and twists to make this watchable but it's overkill and not as good as the original. At least there is a small homage to the classic with a scene from the end of Rear Window starring Jimmy Stewart paused on a TV screen in the opening scene.

Especially if you are a detective running around with a gun. Why do so many episodic directors and costume designers the world over refuse to let short women be short?

Waiting for Season 2... maybe
8 May 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I enjoyed bingeing this series despite some of the cheesiness but full disclosure...I'm a septuagenarian and if, as rumor has it, season 2 would jettison the old folks and focus on the kids then count me out. There are already enough shows with super heroes under 30 streaming on all the providers.

Seniors still rule.

Worth watching but incredibly frustrating
1 May 2021
Warning: Spoilers
This is a good story and worth watching but takes the old, "don't say anything to anybody or we will kill your wife," plot to a whole new and incredibly frustrating level and I honestly believe the series would be much better if the producers and writer had tightened it up into only 6 episodes instead of 8.

Our hero Mat is trying to find his missing wife and being an ex con we can cut him some slack when he acquiesces to the threats he gets about seeking help early in the story. However, it doesn't take long for us, and Mat, to find out his wife has been leading a double life and lying to him for the 4 years they have been together. The frustrating thing is as the evidence against her and the seriousness of what she was apparently involved in piles up, he still refuses to tell anyone who can help him (including his Private Detective) the truth or ask for help and we have to endure his befuddled reticence for 3 episodes, not finding out what's really up with her until the end of the 4th episode.

I'm sorry but loyalty has it's limits and the more we learn about his wife and other nefarious characters in the show the more unbelievable and unrealistic his silence becomes. Seriously, ex con or not, I would have been calling the cops as soon as I found out she wasn't where she was supposed to be and had absconded with my life's savings.

All of that said, if you can hang in there through this slog fest, the last 3 episodes are much better than the first 3.

An oldie but goodie...
23 April 2021
This is a really good story with interesting characters, solid acting, and a plot that keeps you engaged through all 24 episodes. Well worth watching and holds up extremely well even though it first aired about 18 years ago. Currently streaming on HBOMax so you have a second chance to watch it if you missed it the first time around.

The only reason I don't give it a 10 is because I never give anything a 10.

Say what?!!!!
22 April 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Maybe something was lost in translation but 23 minutes into the film one of the detectives tells the prosecutor the young wife, who was found laying unconscious next to her dead husband, the murder weapon in her hand, should be released because, "she's about to inherit everything and doesn't have a motive." Where, other than Taiwan I guess, could that statement make any sense.

6 April 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I enjoyed this series but it really threw me for a loop when a gangly brown-eyed teenager (Cordelia) escaped from Rausch and then magically morphed into a mature 30 year old blue-eyed woman 4 years later!

Also, how did Cordelia/Lila meet Fabian? Did she travel straight to Buenos Aires with no money after left Rausch and immediately fall into the arms of Fabian and get married without him ever questioning the birth of their daughter (Moira)?

Very slow...very boring...
30 March 2021
Until the last 10 minutes which are great!

I really don't understand all the glowing reviews. Maybe I've just got Covid-19 fatigue but I couldn't wait for this movie to get going and end. It was a good idea but takes way to long to develop and is filled with one anticlimactic moment after another.

The acting is OK but Devon Sawa as Joseph just doesn't quite deliver.

I really enjoyed this series but I feel there was an oversight in the script at the end of Season 4...
30 March 2021
By the the time we get to Season 4 we are all well aware of DI Chandler's OCD compulsions. That said, he spends so much time in the sewers during the final 2 episodes it seems conspicuously out of character for us to never see him buy new shoes. Certainly a man who changes his white dress shirt 3 times daily at the office would have made multiple trips to his favorite cordwainer after so many trips through the London sewers.

Agoraphobia?
13 February 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I'm only on episode 7 but I am enjoying this series...sort of. That said, I wish the writers would hurry up and explain Maria Avila's apparent agoraphobia. Married for years with a teenage son and she suddenly goes off the rails for no reason and can't even go to the store to buy groceries? Her character is dragging down the whole series. It's beyond belief that Sr. Avila puts up with her nonsense. Her continued presence is boring and weakens the entire show by weakening his character. He needs to either commit her, divorce her, or kill her...the sooner the better. Somebody please slap some sense in to her or get rid of her. Speaking of boring, their son is the worst. His psycho classmate is a much better character and actor.

Much better than I expected...
12 February 2021
I'm generally not drawn to subjects portrayed in this movie but after a full year of sheltering in place I decided to give it a go. It is a good movie particularly in the context of being Dano's screenwriting and directorial debut. It's much more sophisticated than one might expect for a young director's first outing.

I grew up in the 50's and 60's and my parents actually split up in 1962 when my mother (like Jeanette) simply decided she didn't want to be a married housewife anymore. Even though the story is much more complex than the childhood memories I have of my personal experiences at the time, I still enjoyed it; perhaps because it gave me a more sophisticated and nuanced view of what my parents, siblings, and myself went through at the time. Kudos to Mr. Dano.

Worth watching.
2 February 2021
It's a good story. Most of the main characters are interesting and well acted but some are pretty 1 dimensional clichés and come across as forced.

Makeup to the set...please. Nothing to do with the story but what is up with Macarena Gomez's eyes? She is only 42 years old but her eyes look like 100. Could be she just loves to party and her skin is now toasted beyond repair and unfortunately no amount of makeup or cinematographic lighting magic can cover it up.

Decent concept and first episode then blah....
23 January 2021
I enjoyed the setup of the first episode but the acting and script quickly became pretty pathetic.

Also, I couldn't get beyond the fact that numerous cutaways to family photos showed that Holly and Elise's parents are clearly white but there is no explanation as to why Elise is so much darker (as in black) than the parents or her sister.

I'm calling BS...
11 January 2021
Warning: Spoilers
First off, generally speaking I have enjoyed both seasons of this series and recommend it as worth watching but when it comes to Season 2, Episode 4, I'm calling BS.

A lone psycho PHOTOGRAPHER armed with a knife with a 5" blade against 4 large dogs and the dogs all end up dead?!!!! No way. 4 Lhasa Apsos maybe but as a breeder of large dogs with strong prey drive and high protection instincts for owners and the pack no way this guy gets out of this with only a single bite on his leg. Live or die, he would have been torn to shreds.

HELP!!!!
8 January 2021
I enjoyed this show although I didn't much care for all the times the writers would reveal important information to a character (letter, video, computer file, etc.) and then cut away without letting the audience (us) in on the secret. Felt like a cheap trick to keep viewers hooked because the writers didn't trust the strength of their story to do it.

Also, as another reviewer mentioned, I think Season 1 of the original Czech production, "Mamon" was better. Certainly much better casting. Tighter script as well.

Entertaining but...

As usual too much political commentary. 3 episodes in and we've already had comments about racism, patriarchy, and homophobia, all of which added absolutely nothing to the story line.

High heel boots...Really?
22 December 2020
How is this diminutive detective (played by Yael Stone) supposed to run down bad guys in boots with 3 inch heels. Why couldn't the director just accept she's only 5 feet tall and let her wear sneakers? Is there some sort of cinematographic rule against letting short people be short? Ironic because the director seemingly has no problem repeatedly filming closeups of her dwarfish, stubby fingers.

8 December 2020
If you haven't seen Mr. Eastwood's movie then this is a good story worth watching. If you have, you may find yourself fast forwarding through a lot of it.

Arliss Howard as Earl Embry is great! Kudos to the casting director.

Disappointing
31 October 2020
Warning: Spoilers
10 hours of television can be summed up in the final episode where a young woman giving birth in a bathtub attended by demons (who by almost by definition have to love sex and debasement) and the director/writers decide it's appropriate for her to be wearing a long sleeve, wool sweater. The sentiments expressed in that one unrealistic scene run throughout the entire show.

Good story but not very well directed and cast.
28 October 2020
I agree with others who think unexplained foreign accents matter. I'm on this page now because half way through the film I stopped focusing on how beautiful Leona Paraminski is and started focusing on her accent instead, which needless to say took me out of the film. Same could be said for one of the leads played by Tom Wisdom. Made me curious about where this film was produced, cast, and shot; enough so to bring me here. Bottom line, you can't drop a beautiful woman with a foreign accent into an American movie without a backstory.

That said, I liked the story...a lot. Unfortunately it didn't have the financing, casting, production value, or director needed to make it a really good movie.

OK but not nearly as good as The Last Kingdom
23 October 2020
The usual feminist propaganda with plenty of railing against the patriarchy. Unfortunately the director, costume, and makeup departments also fall victim to modern sensibilities. 100 A.D. but all the main characters have perfect teeth and the women shave their armpits.
