Ready Player One (2018)
Not great compared to the book but still a good film
So I just went and saw the film Ready Player One.
Having read the book, I hoped that a film might be made of it as it seemed like like an excellent story.
Then fairly recently I saw the advertisement for ready player one, which I recognised by the stacks and thought that it seemed similar to the the book.
lo and behold it was in fact a film based on the book.
Unfortunately I must emphasize that it was a film based on the book rather than a film of the book because a lot of things were chopped out, things that I belive are the raw make-up of the story.
I don't want to spoil the film for others so to be blunt I believe the film is only a shadow of the book both in story and in meaning.
I would still see the film as it is fun and interesting but if you were the kind of person that finds a story ruined to be very disappointing I wouldn't necessarily recommend seeing the film however if you have not read the book or do not mind a story change then the film is definitely worth a watch.
If the movie of the Last Airbender was a zero and Harry Potter was a 10, I would place this as an 8 on the scale of book to movie conversion.
Unfortunately everything seems rushed despite large chunks of the story being omitted, a mini Love Story that locks at self-employed before the films even halfway through, a plot line that removes tragedies and replaces them with overly convenient situations simplified for the masses to be able to understand.
The book worked well because it had a lot of meaning that a geek or someone technical could understand and take pleasure in understanding but the film was spoon feeding.
White Rabbit Project (2016)
To much CGI, Bad acting and Promoting bad behavior.
I am a tech enthusiast with qualifications in History, Physics, Engineering and Computing. I know what I am talking about and loved Mythbusters because so did they, but this show is like Mythbusters crossed with a tabloid and a reality TV show.
This is the show a 8 to 16 year old could watch but for most other people is is dull.
It is painful to watch the BAD CGI, I mean really bad mostly because it is so stupid and pointless! Floating screens and bad holograms that grant , Tory and Kari pretend to interact with just look so bad, it is really disappointing how much rubbish is in this show, the creators really banked on the Mythbusters trio attracting viewership but they don't have the quality of content to hold us.
They trio said it best in the first episode when the mocked Tori's short movie clip, everything they said applies so strongly to the show itself.
Then there is some stupid stuff they do, most is just funny or harmless but some is trash. In one episode they promote shooting down, smashing or otherwise disabling other peoples property which is very illegal and selfish! Or there is point where they pick trash situations over interesting ones like Hitler on estrogen when they could have picked something much more ludicrous and interesting.
The Accountant (2016)
Good movie but horrific technical writing.
Hear me out, I thought the movie was good, in fact i thought it was great, but there is just one thing that derailed an otherwise excellent film, writer who feel the need to throw in a scene with "technology lines" and monumentally feck it up! Right at the end there is a scene where a Parent says to a psychiatrist , "woah some of you donors must be really generous, the computer in there is a cx120" psychiatrist says: "You will have to forgive me i don't know much about computers, is that good?" Parent says: "Are you kidding it is water cooled and has 12 cores!, you could hack into the pentagon with that"
At which point i am sitting there thinking "what the feck!, did i literally just hear a load of BULL!" Yup i did, you know why , because you could hack into the pentagon with a bloody mobile phone, not to mention this "super expensive 12 core water cooled computer " would cost like $2000 which means the donor is a cheapskate really. Hell i am typing on an 56core water cooled monster right now and it cost me $2500 to build. It is such a stupid line to try give the completely irrelevant plot point that ......................... because it already has been revealed 2 Fecking times before this.
It seems like a silly thing to get stuck on but seriously why do writers for TV shows, movies, news feel the need to talk about technology without just asking the guy down the computer store if they sound like a fecking idiot?
Project Almanac (2015)
How can a movie be so wrong, so awful, so hoodwinked
I am an engineer, I do the sort of things these guys "do". The first 5 minutes into this movie I knew it was going to be so ffing idiotic. "the phone call is interrupting the wifi".....someone please punch the writer in the face. Phone calls and wifi are on completely separate frequencies. Yet this guy is supposedly going to operate a time machine with that level of knowledge. MIT would think this was a joke video. It actually pains me to watch this show of idiocy
This is the kind of movie that caters to the technologically retarded who go "ooooh shiny". I mean the guy literally just spouts jargon that has nothing to do with anything. "Hey how do i fix this?" "Oh you put the flux capacitor in the defibrillator and press the hypotenuse button"
"we are going to take it to its max altitude" "its not responding".. smash smash smash on the keyboard keys, yeah because that's going to work...
So to sum it up, if you know anything about technology this movie is unwatchable because everything is wrong, even the stuff in real life that everyone has is being used and explained as if my 90 year old technophobe grandmother had just skimmed a manual on particle physics.
This movie should be in the genre cringe comedy.
Oblivion (2013)
Overally a good movie, but definitely not original
I have to say , overall i loved the film, it had a very tron/ star trek (2009) feel with some good music, but it was very predictable and heavily stole from other movies such as MOON, (the guy who is alone on the moon) and well, tron in terms of its visuals.
But the biggest thing that got to me was the scientific errors, most specifically the helicopter thing that the main character flies in, they make a big thing of it showing the swiveling engines and zooming in on the tail rotor, but here is the thing, if its got two independent motors on either side, why does it have a tail rotor?
It can be to turn or counteract torque because the main motors just swivel... so yeah FAIL!
other things that i cannot say as they are spoilers but this movie was just made for the money, written for the money etc.. But it is still a good movie to watch when you want action, drama and thrills.
Haven (2010)
IF you want a show that spoon feeds you the plot and is a blatant ripoff this is the one for you!
After watching this show, every episode i might add, i have found it to be a true masterpiece of American TV drivel.
The not so original plot involves a town, full of special people being accidentally found by FBi agent, (ripoff of eureka from the beginning) The plot looks like such a copy of eureka that at the beginning it even have said agent crash her car, just as jack in eureka ep1 did...
They have made the story so dull by spoon feeding the plot to the audience, its might as well me a Jerry springer show, you know what going to happen, you know whose fault it probably is etc.
Not to mention the actors are well, shoddy to say the least, especially when cgi is involved, they just flail around and sort of look in the general direction of things, and when driving, apparently they are driving through an obstacle coarse as the steering-wheel get practically spun half the time, and when they car is being controlled by a mystical force, they continue to steer even though they supposedly have no control?
Then there is how ridiculous the story can be, such as the FBI agent going around blurting out things that no one in their real mind would say if they wanted to keep their jobs.
Overall i truly cannot believe that a show like "a town called eureka" gets canceled because its not bringing in a high enough budget to line the top peoples pockets and instead we get something like this with the cheapest actors and temp writers copying other shows and spoon feeding the audience with their lack of creativity.
Bicentennial Man (1999)
This is a Review not a Plot lay out!
I found this film to be one of the best i have watched in a long time It is comparable in quality to A.I. Artificial Intelligence and emotionally to Titanic.
This film is good for children, but amazing for matured audience. The acting is First class an the script is as tight as a rock.
This film would at the very least bring a tear to even the blackest of hearts, as if WALL-E met A.I..
People may shun it for not being true to the book, and i would agree if it had been a bad interpretation, however this is quite the opposite.
I would recommend that even if you are speculative towards the movie, MAKE TIME to watch it and you just may realize what you could have missed.
Sanctuary (2008)
Some of the scripting has bits to be desired.
I have overall enjoyed the story but i have to say, as far as technology goes, the writer has NO CLUE, on many occasions a character has spoken out jargon and it made NO sense, it was as if they just took technical words and stringed them together , for example at one point they said "use the motherboard chip" now i presume they meant the cpu but if they didn't then there is an awful lot of microchips on a motherboard.
At another point one of the characters said, i put it on an iso Drive, now whats that? i know what an iso file is and what a drive is, but whats an iso drive? At another point, "i have hacked into their IOS on their servers and have planted a spy worm" , ios is the os on apple mobile devices , not a server.
now it may seem petty, but for those in the know it is painful to stay with the plot, when the super "techno" man is essential a parrot.
Flubber (1997)
Review of Flubber
This movie , i would say is an 8/10 it is both great for the family of all ages, and great for the lone watcher.
I would have to say that anyone who hates this movie, has a dislike for a character or director as there is very little to criticize it for otherwise, it has a highish budget, which means it has potential and it delivers, so ignore haters and give it a go! The general plot is a clumsy Professor created a new life form made of flubber with strange properties, I cant really say more as it would ruin the plot. However i can say that children will love the film, adults will like the film and elderly will find it amusing, which in my books is good enough reason to buy.
