Si no t'hagués conegut (2018)
... if i only had a brain.
I suspect that this partially a tongue in cheek comedy - an absurdist soup opera of sorts. However i must accept partial responsibility for watching it with overdubbed English, which makes it almost impossible to listen to.
Don't waste your time watching this.
If there are any merits to this , then its simply that the producer managed to draw out a banal scenario, adding cliched musical stings and breathy overdubs, and still managed to get viewers who apparently loved it ( quite likely paid commentary- anyhow) .
The central character behaves like an idiot throughout the series and yet relatives and associates continue to humor him as if he were a cute child throwing tantrums - in many scenes he acts like a drug addict, and perhaps the whole series is some sort of metaphor of a wayward husband/ parent who is escaping reality and responsibility via an injectable substance (into his arm ) .
Westworld: Que Será, Será (2022)
Que Será, Será ?
"William, dear angel! This is thy funeral, this thy dirge!
(Mary Shelly~ Frankenstein)
Farewell MIB.
A melodramatic train wreck - on steroids - until the very last shudder.
Animal Kingdom (2016)
Interesting but awkward
Mostly I found the drama of this series very entertaining, however the gay sex scenes did get gratuitous (nearly every episode). I'm not a prude, nor homophobic, but it did detract from my ongoing enjoyment of the show (my girlfriend however found my growing discomfort amusing). Just thought other straight males might appreciate the warning.
Watchmen (2019)
Not for children.
"If you don't like my story, then write your own" ~ ep 4
Most spin-offs eg Star wars, appeal only to loyal fanbases , but i was most surprised by this series. I have to say it is very entertaining, intellectually and comically- and judging by the extreme variance in ratings, quite divisive.
I wonder if that's simply a reflection of the current political war in the US, or due to a more fundamental malaise / philistinism - i don't know, but I suspect the later.
Clever writing will always cause strong reactions for its audiences, and i am pleased to have had the opportunity to witness the almost sublime madness that is Watchmen.
Happy!: Saint Nick (2017)
Well worth your time out
Well there you go - something i haven't seen before !
Im not sure how ill go watching the rest of the series, however i had a great laugh at the crass humor in this pilot episode.
It seems that there are still some writers out there who have the wit to heal our collective sadness - what a relief .
Castle Rock: Caveat Emptor (2019)
OK
Well things are still going to sh8 in a hurry at the rock - with no less than a dozen murders in this episode...
I suppose that is what the minds of the viewers for these sorts of programs are excited by - but the level of violence has increased with every episode, and now is all that is holding together what was could have been a story, and I am finding that my interest has suffered to the point where i simply want to see the end of this series, rather than to see what happens next ! Caveat Emptor indeed.
Ghostland (2018)
Banal violence
It makes no sense. Just grotesque and lurid- like their makeup.
Martyrs at least had evil intent, but this was verging on slapstick.
Why some viewers have seen this and given it a recommendation to others, is the only horror of it.
Ji qi zhi xue (2017)
Dreadful
I cant imagine why professional filmmakers would release something this ; other than to deliberately lose investors money, for the purposes of a tax write-off ??
Nothing about it made sense in any form of the word - and as an australian it comes as something of an embarrassment that we still make this sort of crap
Halloween (2018)
Not worth watching.
Ridiculous 'plot', and dreadful acting...life's too short for this kind of rubbish.
The Sunset Limited (2011)
Unresolved ending
The nihilism of White seemed to me to be quite ridiculous, especially when counterpointed by the enthusiasm of Black. Having felt White's rage - i have felt and said much the same - but was left bored by his rantings. Ironic i suppose.
As a movie, "A Pure Formality" - was a much better investigation of this dilemma.
Ready Player One (2018)
It missed the mark...
Made for children, bubblegum; by adults who like to play with guns.
Cliches abound ( underdog who gets the girls blah blah...).
Almost none of the real pathos of Saving Private Ryan (arguably Spielberg's finest moment in cinema).
