In America (2002)
Incredible
This would go on anyone's top twenty list, and is in my top ten. The young actresses should be up for best-supporting oscars. I will be surprised if at least one of them are not. Amazing, heart-warming, deep. Well written, and directed. The E.T. doll scene drives you crazy. The ending scene will make you cry. Watch the credits if you want to cry more.
The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King (2003)
Everything
Fantasy meets epic. The 80's was full of medievil fantasies, and those of us who loved them, fantasized that they were this good. It is everything you want it to be and more. People who aren't avid fans of the series might think the last 15 minutes drag, but its a small price to pay for the rest. For those who are avid fans, the last fifteen minutes is necessary closure.

This film moves at a moderate pace. It has pretty good
performances- the young girl in the film does well. The promos
give an illusion of eerieness that is really not present in the film.
They did not take advantage of some of the beautiful southwest
scenery that they could have.

Did you like- Dances with Wolves, Gladiator, The Patriot, Braveheart, etc.- In other words its a formula epic. Its been done a hundred times before, but always done well, in fact done better each time- So, its way worth seeing- especially on the big screen. The visual effects are amazing. Cruise- people either love him, hate to love him, or love to hate him. Anyway you slice it- he's good in this film. It romanticizes a sub-culture that has some interesting values. You can see this type of movie with anyone and enjoy it.

"Big" (but not as good) meets holiday film. Its not what you think, if you are having reservations to see this film. It is not bathroom humor. And those of you who went looking for Saturday night live on celluloid, I'm sorry. Instead, this is a charming holiday movie with some silliness and some warmth. Take a date, take the kids, and enjoy this film that gets you in the spirit.

Okay, its Dead Poets Society meets womens' lib, with a little less depth. Ironic are they who call it a chick flick. In essence it tries to be anti "chick". You'll know what I mean when you see it. Go Kirsten Dunst- her best performance since Virgin Suicides. Unless you count her great acting job in Bring It On- haha. Girls should go with their mothers to this movie to bond the best, but again ironically, the men who will dislike this movie are the ones that its message should be conveyed to.
