13 Reasons Why (2017)
Let's try to help
The latest series to come from Netflix, is awfully depressing but still forces you to watch the episodes on a binge mode. The sole purpose of this series was to strike a conversation and make people realize that suicide is not at all an option in spite of all the suffering that one has endured. It might be controversial, it might have glamorized suicide but it still manages to hit the right chords and make people take notice and spread awareness about this highly sensitive topic. Well done Netflix and Selena!
Bajatey Raho (2013)
Waste of an Ensemble cast
Bajatey Raho promises so much and delivers so less. If you have actors like Vinay Pathak, Ranbir Shorey, Dolly Ahluwalia, Ravi Kishen in your movie, a simple story can transform into a power packed entertainment. Alas, the director made a point to assemble the aforesaid cast but choose a story which lacked originality.
The movie seemed to be a tribute to Khosla ka Ghosla more than once. Then again, tributes are so tricky. The cons performed didn't excite much and the ending was so very predictable. Shashant Shah after directing classics like Dasvidaniya and Chalo Dilli with the sheer brilliance of one single actor named Vinay Pathak, forgot to utilize him for majority of the film. Tushar Kapoor has let down the audience on more than one instance and this movie is another example of the same. Ranbir Shorey and Dolly Ahluwalia showed some sparks in the limited opportunities they were presented with.
Then again, if you want to watch this movie at all, watch it for Ravi Kishen. Just like wine, he is getting better with age. He demonstrated such a flawless spectrum of emotions that you can overlook the dullness of the story itself or at least in the parts he has acted in.
Moral : Watch this movie in case you have watched Khosla ka Ghosla only more than a dozen times and you are finally bored of the same.
Shuddh Desi Romance (2013)
It could have been a little more Shuddh and a little more Desi !!
Shuddh Desi Romance: Till Interval, it is one of the most apt real life interpretation of modern day relationships !!! After Interval, it reminded me of Bhaag Milkha Bhaag as the groom was running from 1st bride, 2nd bride was running from groom, 1st bride and 2nd bride were having a fag together . After that 2nd bride and the groom runs once again. All because they didn't want Rishi Kapoor's business to prosper. Well that was only the logical explanation i could come up with. The saving grace in the film were the background score and Rishi Kapoor's acting. Sushant meant business in this film as well after Kai Po Che. Parineeta is the perfect replacement of Kajol in Bollywood as the girl next door. Vaani kapoor is nothing more than being an eye candy in the film throwing the same expression over and over again. The plot left a lot to be desired and the climax should have been more conclusive. You can't just repeat the same situations in mere circles in the same movie with only changing characters humming the same set of dialogues. Last word: It could have been a little more Shuddh and a little more Desi !!
Madras Cafe (2013)
Bollywood Grows Up
Don't know about Indian audience but Indian Film Makers are surely maturing in terms of story telling. Madras Cafe is one of the rare gems in Bollywood which depicts fast pace revelation of events coupled with engrossing plot and apt acting. This movie reminded me of the Bourne Series more than once and pays silent tribute to Hollywood style film making. Talking from acting point of view, it seems John has kept his best for 2013. After Shoutout at Wadala, John undoubtedly provides his career best performance with this one. Well then again the role of the RAW agent was tailor made for him. Siddhartha Basu deserves special mention as the the guy with the brains provides the sense of calmness in this fast paced assassination plot.Nagris Fakhri seemed at ease with her British English Accent though a lot of improvement is still required as per her acting abilities. Last but not least, hats off to Soojit Sarcar for pulling this off. Golden Times Ahead.
Special Chabbis (2013)
Best Con Movie That Bollywood has ever produced
This is undoubtedly the best con movie Bollywood has ever produced. Bunty & Bubli, Bluffmaster all take a back seat when compared to this gem. The details with which every con job has been portrayed along the engrossing Background Score keeps you on the edge of your seat for most part of the movie. The romance angle was quite unnecessary though. They should have stuck with Oh My God & Paan Singh Tomar approach. If your story is good enough Indian audiences can forgive the director for not including forceful romantic angles in every movie. By interval you will be unknowingly rooting for the Bad Guys. The way the story ends leaves you in quite an awe. Good times await for Indian audiences and this movie is an indication for the same. Must Must watch for all.
