Episode 1 of Fallout was very interesting and a good setup for the rest of the series. However, after a very exciting first half where we are introduced to Lucy and her backstory, the Maximus segment was a bit more sedate and made me think the pace would be a bit slower now after the fast start.
I also figured that our main protagonists - Lucy, Maximus and The Ghoul - would probably tread parallel paths for a while before meeting in some climactic scene a few episodes into the future. I haven't played the video game so I have no idea how the plot is supposed to go.
So much for the slow convergence of the separate paths! Episode 2 propels the story forward in a massive way, jolting the series into top gear. No slow convergence, our characters' lives are now well intertwined.
It's not just the plot that's motored ahead, the action has ramped up too. Some great action scenes in this episode.
Fantastic episode and am looking forward to what the remainder of the series brings us.

I don't envy the writers of The Last of Us, having to come up with something to follow S2 Episode 2. Episode 2 was brilliant, a perfect whirlwind of action, drama and emotion. It was so climactic it felt like a season finale. A very tough episode to top.
This tragedy and finality left a lot of intrigue for Episode 3. Where to from here? Would Ellie now be the central character or would someone else emerge to at least share the spotlight? Ellie / Bella Ramsey is not capable of carrying the show, a fact which made Joel's death so much more intriguing from a plot perspective.
I was not expecting quick or elaborate answers to these questions as Episode 3, I felt, was always going to be one for regrouping rather than moving forward. And so it is, mostly, though we have some idea of where the next few episodes are taking us.
So, not the most exciting episode but that was to be expected.

129 years after a nuclear war devastated the Earth, the descendants of the survivors are living in underground complexes - "Vaults" - and not venturing to the surface. Lucy is an inhabitant of Vault 33 and is about to marry a man from Vault 32. Her life is about to get turned upside down.
Knowing this series is based on a video game I was quite hesitant to watch it. Video game-based series tend to rely on die-hard fans of the game as viewers and so pander to them, assuming that viewers have prior knowledge of the plot and characters and generally ignoring us who know nothing about the game and just want to watch an entertaining series.
This doesn't apply to Fallout. Based on the first episode the show doesn't rely on the video game for support and stands on its own two feet. The plot is interesting and the characters are engaging.
Looking forward to the remainder of the series.
