Father Brown: The Company of Men (2023)
Father Brown trying to be politically correct
The old characters had charm and were believable. The plots were interesting and Father Brown's relationship with people was always respectful. This episode went full out with 21st century morals (they acted like they had never heard of a gentleman's club) and the police seemed like they just followed everything Brown said. Lady Felicia chaining herself to the bar was ridiculous and the scene where the cop says he is arresting the girl for aiding the murderer in her escape was unbelievable. "I am arresting her." "No, you are not!" "Okay." Then the cop just left. Brown has lost his charm and humility, the supporting cast is inept, and the show is trying to force current issues onto the audience.
I miss the old Father Brown.
The Doctor Blake Mysteries (2013)
Each episode could stand on its own as a movie
I love this show, and am very sad that it has ended. The photography, writing, characters, and late 50's to early 60's atmosphere are wonderful. You really get into the characters, and they are realistically portrayed. My wife and I started to watch the show and were hooked. It's just a better quality show than practically any other out there.
Lethal Weapon: Coyote Ugly (2019)
Way too many plot holes.
There were so many inconsistencies in this episode it was annoying. I realize the series isn't supposed to be realistic, but just off the top of my head, here are some of them:
1. The little girl, whom the father speaks to in Spanish when they are fleeing the smugglers, suddenly begins speaking perfect English and even uses American slang later in the episode. I'm surprised they had her speak with a little bit of an accent.
2. All of the officers who are being chased by the smugglers somehow forget they have weapons and don't return fire. In fact, when the smugglers are approaching the cabin, the female officer mentions she doesn't have enough ammo left, even though she never fired her gun.
3. The smugglers immediately start firing at the abandoned pickup Cole and the girl are sitting behind, without any clue as to how they knew they were there, or why the smugglers even knew to go to that spot.
4. Bailey keeps harping on Murtaugh not to tell her what to do, as they are equals. Huh? Isn't he her supervisor?
5. How bad of shots are the bad guys when they can't even hit the windshield of the car Murtaugh and Bailey are in, and seem to miss everything, except for the one lucky hit on Cole. On top of that, they just flee without even firing at the helicopter.
6. Maybe I missed it, but why did Murtaugh think the reporter wasn't who he said he was? I get the feeling some scenes didn't make the final cut that would have explained things better.
7. How did the helicopter find them?
8. The Border Patrol are on the take and want to silence the father, but leave him at the hospital to talk to whomever he pleases and they make no attempt to either guard him or kill him. Then they finally take him with the hospital and everybody else knowing who exactly is taking custody of him.
There were others that escape me at the moment, and it is possible some of these I just missed something that explained it, but it just seems like they wrote this one on a napkin at a Denny's. I like the show, but hopefully they do better in the future. I could also do without Murtaugh's family, who all seem selfish and have pretty much no respect for him, yet he is the one who is always apologizing. I guess it's supposed to be cute, but I personally find it annoying.
