Pornography (2009)
What the F***?????
Okay, I love psychological thrillers. I love gay cinema. I watched this movie and couldn't figure out what in the hell was going on.
First, I couldn't tell who was who. The movie was so poorly lit that I found myself squinting to see what was going on. All of the main characters looked the same - I guess it was to link the three phases of the movie together to show the different dynamics of the same issue, but good Lord. Turn the lights up so I can distinguish between the leads.
The story was so full of holes and there was nothing intertwining the different stories. It was like they couldn't figure out what direction the movie was going in. I felt the movie should have ended 5 times before it was truly over.
I feel like hours of my life were sucked away and I will never get them back. It wasn't even a movie that was so deep that I reflect on it later. I watched it until the end and all I could say was, "What in the hell was this movie about?"
The Monster Squad (1987)
One of the greatest kid adventure movies ever!
I'm 30 years old and I remember watching this movie this movie like everyday when I was 11. I loved it then and I bought the DVD on eBay and I still love it. In fact, my 9 year old son watched it and now he loves it too! It's one of those movies that just make you feel good. There's this adventure with these kids who have to save the world from the forces of evil, but that's just it, they're kids. It's sweet, touching, funny and entertaining. Now granted, it's not as good as the best children's adventure ever...The Goonies, but it still holds it own.
If you like kids movies, plus taking a trip back in the day with references to Miami Vice and a Steven King Rules t-shirt, Monster Squad is the movie for you!
Ai no korîda (1976)
Poor dialog, poorly done sex scenes, poor movie!!!!
This movie was almost, almost as bad as The Brown Bunny. I have seen hard core porn with more of a plot than this crap! I was expecting more of a psychological thriller or a twisted love tale, being that they were suppose to have a sexual obsession for each other and it was based off of a true story.
Spoiler Warning!!!!!!!!!! Granted, she was a nymphomaniac, but he acted like he wasn't remotely interested half of the time. Case in point, when she's "servicing" him and he lights up a cigarette, what? I kept trying to see something in his face, some sign of life; but it was not there. Not until she still went out tricking.
So I understand that is important to the film, neither one of them really could function in society. He was strange, and didn't like his wife, and raped the maid; that kind of thing. And she wasn't adjusted well, she liked to fight, had an obsession with knives apparently and S & M. But when they got together, they still didn't have anything else between them but sex. All of their dialog with each other revolved around it.
The part that confused me most, is if she was so in love with him and wanted him in her always, why did she kill him? It didn't look like an accident to me, nor did she act like; she went outside and started mastubating. Then she castrated him. Well maybe it's just me, but it works much better if it's still attached to a "living" person.
All in all, this movie had no plot, horrible dialog, and no build up. 5 minutes into the film until the last frame was no stop sex and half the time, I didn't know why. Maybe if the characters were more developed, or if there was a little background, I could feel sorry for them. I understand why it's gotten so much attention. I just think it could have been so much better.
Clerks II (2006)
Well worth the money!
I love Kevin Smith's movies, I really do, I even liked Jersey Girl. But this time Kevin took the cake! This and Dogma are his best! Not only did I laugh out loud during the whole film, but I was able to understand why Randall was such a salty bastard. That guy is funny. And this new character Elias was so adorable and naive, perfect.
I don't know how Kevin came up with the concepts for this film, but I tell you the man is a comedic genius. Jay and Silent Bob were fantastic! It was great to see Jason Mews again. Even though Jay is clean and sober, he's still just as clueless and ignorant as ever! The thing I liked best about the movie is how they made fun of things that are supposed to be offensive, like racism. Not normally a funny topic, but the way Kevin did it, I couldn't stop laughing. It was funny I was one of 2 black people in the theater and when the racism part came up, I noticed the people on my row looked like they were afraid to laugh. I on the other hand was cracking up. If you can't make fun of yourself then you have no reason to laugh at others.
All in all, I will be seeing this again in the theaters and I definitely will be buying it and make it part of my Kevin Smith collection.
See it, you will NOT be disappointed!
Hoodwinked! (2005)
Great family film!
OK, so the animation isn't Pixar, but it's not bad either. Hell, I watched South Park for 2 seasons where they weren't even using computer animation, just cut outs. I have to give credit were it is due, this was a good movie. It made me laugh out loud, which is not something that I do often at a children's movie. I've seen so many bad one's later, Chicken Little, that I wasn't psyched to see this one. Boy was I surprised. The humor was witty and there was enough physical humor that my son thought it was hilarious and enough adult humor to crack me up! The script and comedic timing was priceless. There were plenty of references from other movies that made it even funnier. I'd even consider watching a part 2 if they could be as creative. Two thumbs way up from me and my kid!
The Brown Bunny (2003)
Wtf?!?!?!?!?
This is by far the worst movie I have ever seen. Driving across country by yourself is boring enough, but watching someone else drive across country alone is even more boring! There was only 10 lines of dialog in the movie. The camera angles were strange and the music was so depressing I wanted to slit my wrists. I think what bothered me more than the endless driving, was how these women seemed to think that he was a "hot boy". They would just randomly go with him although he looked and acted like a crazy person. Sane people wouldn't ask a stranger to drive across country w/ them, especially when she's like 16.
Although the "scene" was well hyped, if you've ever seen, given or received head, you've seen it before. More interesting to me was to find out that he just couldn't accept what happened and he was still w/ her in his mind. But I sat through 60 minutes of mindless driving for 10 minutes of an OK movie? So not worth it!
Tristan + Isolde (2006)
A good rental
I love period movies, love stories, battle epics, so I was really excited to this one. But it just didn't measure up. Granted there were great battle scenes, but the story itself and acting could have been much better! I would have loved more character development or more to the story. It gave a good try, but didn't quite measure up.
The girl that played Isolde did a great job. You could see her love for Tristan every time she looked at him. Tristan did a great job as a warrior, but I didn't really buy him as being as head over heals as he was in the book.
All in all, it wasn't a bad movie. I definitely have seen better and a lot worse. I think this would be a great rental or a movie to watch on cable. It just didn't wow me enough to be on the big screen.
Gigli (2003)
I must admit, I liked it!
Now I'll be the first to admit, I'm hard on movies. I hate them for dumb reasons and love them for even dumber ones. I watched this movie with the intention of hating it, but I had a perverse need to know why it was so bad.
I found myself laughing out loud at it, falling in love w/ the characters and a little sad when it was over.
It's one of those films that you smile at even when there's nothing funny happening. It left me happy. I rank it up there w/ some of my favorites including Mallrats and Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back. And although I'm not a huge Jennifer or Ben fan, they worked really well together.
If you get the chance give it a try. I must admit, I liked it, a lot!
