Dunkirk (2017)
OK but would have preferred more historical context
Really from a pure entertainment standpoint I didn't care for it. It did not educate me as to why the army was at Dunkirk in the first place and really I didn't care much for any of the characters. It was like being dropped into the chase scene of a Fast and Furious with out any explanation of how you got there. I agree it is a fine piece of work with some good performances sprinkled throughout but was somehow lacking even there. It was even hard to accept given the visuals that there were enough boats to extract 10000 instead of the actual 300000 that were alluded to. Can't say I would recommend it to any of my friends as an entertainment experience, only maybe as a interesting example of technical film making.
The Age of Adaline (2015)
Romantic story with some interesting twists - one of my favorites to date
I've been fascinated with the issues possibly facing someone with an unusually long lifespan ever since I read Lazarus Long by the science fiction writer Robert A. Heinlein. This is in part what drew me to want to see this film. However her lifespan is not the central focus but rather provides an interesting backdrop for the romance of the story. I'm a guy and although I will admit I am a romantic, I am not overly a fan of chick flicks although I have gone to many with my wife to accompany her. That said I myself very much liked this movie. The science behind the character's unusual long life was plausible enough not to be distracting and to it's credit added an epic nature to the film due to her extended lifespan there were scenes covering this period and flash backs and such. The whole cast was nicely chosen and did an excellent job. As far as acting highlights, Blake Lively is captivating to watch (guy's perspective of course) and Harrison Ford is just as good in his role here as I've seen him in any of his dramatic roles. So in short whether you're drawn in from the science angle or the romantic you won't be disappointed. It was definitely the one of the most enjoyable couple hours I've spent at the movies.
Body of Proof: Shades of Blue (2012)
The female drug user-singer is played by Emily West
Regarding a previous reviewer's comment: "The ending was the best part of this episode. A female drug user, who the officer was involved with, finds out that he did not lie to her and that he would help her in pursuing a singing career. Her singing at a club with all officers attending was great to view." I agree, the episode was good but the song in the bar at the end was awesome. I did some web searching and found the singer is Emily West and the song is "Head On" which I could only find as a download from iTunes. It looks to me the song was written for this episode. So I grabbed the song from iTunes and looked into some of her other songs. Another is "Blue Sky".
Enchanted (2007)
Instant Classic - Amy Adams is the classic Disney princess
The move starts with a small bit of classic Disney animation which I found nice to see, given that most animation has gone CG. Since this move is based on the classic Disney tale, it fit well into the move. The cast in this movie could not be better chosen. Amy Adams' performance is worth going to see this movie if for no other reason. She deserves an award for her performance. The rest of the cast is also excellent. The acting is perfectly played, blending humor without being too silly and pokes a little fun at the Disney genre but still holds true to it in the end. I am not a fan of musicals, but there is one musical number in middle of the movie that is thoroughly enjoyable. Bravo! This is one of my favorite movies and destined to be a Disney classic I am sure. I highly recommend this movie.
