Destiny (2014)
Brings nothing new to the table
This game looks really good, and some of the fighting is pretty fun, but other than that, this game is all style and no substance.
Sure, we got Peter Dinklage in this, but he is completely wasted here. All he is there for is for exposition and to occasionally advance the plot, if it can even be called that.
The "humanity is doomed" plot is only interesting if the reason for its doom is interesting. And if the resolution is interesting as well. "Space thugs are threatening humanity! Let's shoot them with our guns!" is neither an interesting scenario nor resolution. Okay, there are fetch quests, too. But that certainly does not help.
Don't even get me started on the "always on" thing. This is the first "always on" game I've ever played and I must say I get why there was such backlash against it in the past. Being kicked off in the middle of a mission or raid due to server issues is annoying as hell.
But hey, if you enjoy mindless, pretty shooters where you can turn off your brain and just blast things in the face until they fall over or explode, you'll probably have a blast with this. And enjoy it you should. I don't think any less of people that do enjoy this type of experience. It's just not for me. Those of you wanting a deeper, more meaningful experience should look elsewhere.
My Little Pony: Equestria Girls (2013)
Not bad enough to make fun of, not good enough to be re-watchable
First of all, I don't care that this is a toy commercial. So's the series, and it's still excellent. That said, while the movie is worth a look, it's not really worth watching over and over again. First of all, the character designs and the fact that the human characters have the same name as their pony equivalents is just lazy. Second, a high school? In the show they seem to be young adults, so why a high school? Also, Brad/ Flash Sentry is very blandly written for a dude that is supposed to be a possible romantic interest for Twilight Sparkle. That said, there are some funny moments and shout outs here. And the final battle was kind of cool. I was never opposed to the idea of humanized ponies, but unfortunately I can't recommend this beyond a watch or two. Oh yeah, it's even more depressing because Meghan McCarthy is a great writer, so I'm not sure what happened here. Probably pressure from Hasbro.
The ABCs of Death (2012)
I tried to like this movie, I really did.
I tried to enjoy this movie because I love the concept. But after enduring some of the most puerile, juvenile, offensive, confusing and depressing stuff I have ever witnessed on screen, I had to turn it off. The 'letter P' segment (where a kitten's head is crushed off screen) broke me. Warning: If you are an animal lover, this movie is not for you. This could have been something amazing, and instead it is garbage. I did learn one thing useful though, and that is that I never want to see any of Simon Rumley's films after seeing what he thinks of kittens. The most depressing thing is that there were a few interesting segments, but they were completely overshadowed by the terrible stuff.
