Echo (2023)
Confusing at times
I am a Comic book geek so I always look forward to these Marvel mini-series, Echo is probably the weakest so far mainly due to the fact that you only get half a conversation/ dialogue unless you are fluent in sign language. Subtitles would have been appreciated.
That said, the storyline was quite good, but I'm not sure they could support a second season. Stand out performance has to go to Vincent D'onofrio / Wilson Fisk / Kingpin, for being both menacing and at time almost caring, weakest character - Chaske Spencer / Henry, not really sure what he was supposed to be doing.
Worth watching again but must have subtitles.
Firestarter (2022)
A new imagining
I maybe in the minority with this review, I quite enjoyed this movie.
Okay it doesn't really follow the original novel, rather it pick out parts that fit this new version.
The casting was pretty good too, young Charlie was the standout, hating her abilities but eventually learning to control them. Not so sure about 'Cap' they should probably have found a new character rather than just have a female boss, also quite whiny.
I really liked the changes to the Rainbird arc with the exception of the last 5mins - toll understand if you've watched before reading reviews.
In summary this movie is very watchable as long as you are prepared to see a new vision for the novel .
The Stand (2020)
What a disappointment
Anyone expecting this show to be similar to the 1994 mini series or follow the book should give this a miss.
This show is disjointed, skipping backwards and forward in timelines, missing great chunks of the story & adding a lot that is not in the original book. The final episode was just an appalling addition to a once great story
With the exception of whoopi Goldberg , the actors & actresses did the best they could with the characterisation, Ms Goldberg quite honestly was Terrible
Conclusion- waste of a quality novel .
Hopefully Stephen King was paid a fortune for this sorry show then at someone benefits from this.
Thor: Love and Thunder (2022)
Should have stopped at trilogy
I had high hopes for this film , a continuation of the marvel universe, unfortunately this film struck the wrong chord near enough from the titles, tried to be too humorous and failed, the few action scenes helped make this a 5.
Good to see Jane & Thor together again but not enough to save this film.
Reacher (2022)
Not quite so tough as in the books
Whilst this show does follow "The killing Floor" fairly closely, Reacher is / does get his arse kicked quite a bit more.
Alan Ritchson is a much better fit as Reacher than Tom Cruise ever was. The fight scenes are very good barring Reacher getting hit much more than any of the books.
The Wheel of Time: The Eye of the World (2021)
Disgraceful- Robert Jordan would be disappointed
I had high hopes and serious reservations regarding this series of books being made into a TV show . My hope were dashed .A total departure from the books , lose of important characters, lack of direction.
Supergirl: Blind Spots (2021)
Political correctness Rammed down our throats
I was tempted to fast forward through most of this episode.... Writers have jumped on the BLM bandwagon
One last chance to keep me as a viewer S06E13.
Please no more pushing moral judgements at me.
The Gifted: coMplications (2018)
Bored now
No forwarding of the plot just whinging women
The men have lost their balls
The writers have lost a viewer- me
The Girl in the Spider's Web (2018)
Better than Dragon Tattoo reboot
As an avid fan of the Millennium books I really loved the original three films starring Noomi Rapace, the re-boot was a pale imitation. The Girl in the Spiders Web is based on the forth book in the Millennium series. I feel that the film is a good attempt to tell the tale but too much of the book detail was skipped or glossed over. A worthy attempt but only adequate. Rated as 7/10 because I liked Claire Foy as Lisbeth Salander.
Doctor Who: Demons of the Punjab (2018)
Going nowhere
I've been a Whovian for over 40 years (47years old) I've seen every episode ever broadcast including the Cushing films. I stay the course through good and bad. So far this season has been mediocre at best... Jodie Whittaker has great potential as The Doctor but is being terribly let down by the writers & Chris Chibnall.
STOP WITH THE PREACHING- political strife, environmental issues etc.
Yes I / we are aware of world issues but most of us want suspense & terror and for a confident Doctor - not the dithering idiot being presented to us presently
