Planes, Trains & Automobiles (1987)
As comedies go, this is a classic...SPOILERS AHEAD
Planes was the funniest film Candy or Martin have ever been in, and together they have made one of the greats. The late John Candy is magnificent in this movie, anyone else would have got on your nerves more and more as the film moved on but the more this goes on, the more loveable the guy becomes. Martin is a straight up down to earth guy who just wants to get home for Thanksgiving. Both these characters attract trouble, if something goes wrong, you can bet on it they're going to be at the centre of it, but where Martin gets more and more frustrated, Candy just lets it pass him by and their different reactions make for hilarious viewing.
Director John Hughes came up trumps with this film, and it's probably the only really good film he's done, with a fantastic comical script and two of the greatest comedians/actors ever to walk the earth, this is a classic and is not to be missed.
Justice (1999)
DO NOT WATCH!!!!!!!!!!!!!
My God what a terrible insult to the film world. The fact that I was very ill, sick off work and nothing else to watch but daytime television made it seem worse. My girlfriend bought this film, along with 3 others on one DVD for £2, so what did she expect for 50 pence a film.
I hate rape scenes in a film so watching this just made me feel sicker than I allready did. So this lawyer puts this thug behind bars and he takes it personal and seeks revenge. James Belushi attracted me to it, one of the other films on this DVD was Red Surf also staring George Clooney, but both these films use the big names to attract an audience and falsley lead them down a dark tunnel with no light at the end of it. At least Red Surf starred George Clooney, Belushi made a brief cameo role in this film and was given star credit. The scene where he falls in love with her and blah blah blah, is daft, it spoils a crap movie, if that's possible, the lead women is hot though.
Hotshot (1986)
cliche and typical American ending
I thought it was a little cliche, when I rented it out years ago as a kid it was called 'Striking Chance' I have recently been back to my old video store in South Wales but they sold it on.
Anyway, back to the cliche. Pele teaches some wannabe "soccer" star how to execute the famous bicycle kick, known to many as the "Pele", him being the man to first do it for Brazil, and he scores the winner, in a cup final by a far fetched, yet marvellous overhead kick into the top corner.
For British football (soccer) fans this is so fake, for our American friends who prefer more high scoring games such as Basketball, who don't know a lot about the British import, it may seem good.
I enjoyed this film as a kid and would like to see it again, despite it's lame perception of what it's co star called "The beautiful game"
