The Puppetman (2023)
A movie about a Biblical entity
I liked the concept. A biblical entity that can control you with you still there. 8 stars are for that. I don't care for other aspects of a movie like acting or graphics or conversational dialogues when its concept is good and has depth. There are certain things I'm left wondering about though:
- Why was father in the end saying to Michal "see me as your mother did"? Power? He felt powerful when killed her and was feeling that again?
- How did entity know Jo and the gym boy were conspiring against it? It or Michal didn't read the messages.
- When police officer entered the police building and transquilized Michal, CCTV camera was shown to go off. What was the significance of that?
Guess I will have to wait for fan theories on reddit and elsewhere to know the answers.
The Mist (2007)
Lame
The fact that people find the ending SHOCKING is cliche, predictable, lame, the reason why director made this ending. The director says "Shock" and viewers are shocked!
Cliche things aren't shocking, neither are they when turned 180 degree for same reason. Overplay the father son relation (which has happened in doomsday hollywood films soo many times it has become a cliche) and just change the result in the end and OMG you think you created such a shocking ending! Don't explain anything, keep background music playing and think you created such a mysterious, depthful story! All characters of this film are such stereotypes. What else can one expect from film based on America's most popular author's novel. This the best they can produce.
Dangerous Game: The Legacy Murders (2022)
Genetics of darkness
Concept. Inheritence of serial killing trait. For this alone I am giving 7 stars. It is an amazing and movie worthy idea. The film started out average, family get together and feud. The game and killings could definitely have been better. Who goes where and dies how is rather coincidental. What if someone else had fallen in the fire pit basement? What if the son had chosen another way of killing his serial killer father than hanging (where would noose board piece go then)? But the ending story reveal made it all worth it. Son and grandson of famous serial killer HH Holmes continuing his legacy, continuing that "darkness within soul".
Passengers (2016)
Good
One extra star for acting of actress. It was fine with certain expressions that are rarely found in hollywood actresses. Ending could've included their child born and he going to new planet and narrating their story. It would've been a nice ending and logical too. At one point in movie I thought there would be aliens involved when Jim and Aurora were fixing something and Aurora was distracted by a motion and noise. But it wasn't so and it's good, not all space movie need to have aliens. But you can't make a space movie without out of ship vacuum chasing and catches, tethering and oxygen loss which was here too.
Love U... Mr. Kalakaar! (2011)
Lovely acting of Amrita Rao
If we put aside terrible male performances (nothing unexpected) and age old theme, this movie is still enjoyable. Why? I think because of the acting of Amrita Rao. Man, what lovely expressions she gives! Reminds me of Kiran Vairale. I loved her acting in Jolly LLB and Singh Sahab the great as well... basically every movie. It's just expressions. They show certain dignity, a standard. Hint at an undiscovered, unchangeable, not-for-sale personality that's her real life one. Such an aura can never be created by "commercial" actresses.
Two more actresses of somewhat similar theme are: Swaroop Sampat & Sucheta Khanna
