The Seven-Per-Cent Solution (1976)
Utterly silly
The movie's wit ended with the opening credits. From the narration in the beginning to the "chance encounter" at the end, everything else was just downright silly. When it does abandon its outright attempts at humor, you aren't sure whether the movie was still trying to be funny in its seriousness or whether the actors really were just unintentionally embarrassing themselves.
Not being a hundred per cent faithful to the book should not be a problem, except to make things more visual and much simpler the script called for dumbed down clues that make Toby the bloodhound seem like far better at detecting than Holmes. It was just so annoying and painful to watch.
Superman Returns (2006)
Days of Our Lives... With Superheroes
I think it's more of them trying to make it seem less shallow than it actually is that broke this movie. If they hadn't pretended so much that their aim is nothing more than giving people a good time, I wouldn't have fallen asleep while trying to swim my way out of the pathetically melodramatic my-son-and-girlfriend-are-living-with-another-guy. Spiderman 2 was also over the top in the kitschy, meaning-of-life parts, but they didn't forget that their main objective was to kick butt. Bland acting, a nonexistent plot, this movie is little more than a collage of different superposes from the superhero. This Superman is more like the movie version of that whiny Five For Fighting song.
MacGyver (1985)
No they don't.
Yes, some of the science may be a little over the top and the rest of the episodes might already be a drag, but this series doesn't come along often. Yeah, I guess they don't make TV this good anymore. Hail ABC and Richard Dean Anderson. :)
