Boring, Dull, Not Believable.
14 November 2004
A friend gave me this movie because she liked it. I decided I would finally watch it. It was sooooooo long. I kept waiting for the suspense to happen but it never did. I kept waiting for something to happen after the opening scenes, and it never did. I stopped the movie and came back later. I actually forced myself to watch the rest of it hoping it would get better. It got worse. I kept asking myself, who are these people? Do they have feelings? are they just robots? I'm glad I didn't pay to see it or pay to rent it. The end would have been better if Dutch died from the gunshot wound. At least we would have gotten some emotion from the audience. Or maybe not.

Too long, sometimes silly movie.

The movie was choppy in places, lacked believability and moved too slow with the plot. Ms. Fontaine seemed to walk funny with her arms to the back and always seemed to be dancing around like a ballerina. Her acting is awful. I didn't see her a a gold-digger but as a little girl in awe of her surroundings. As far as the male leads, all the characters were shallow and again, not believable. I laughed in places. However, I did enjoy Hollywood's visual idea of the idle rich of the 40'sand 50's-- big empty houses, always attending parties, dressing in designer duds, seemingly bored with life. . I also question whether Mel Ferrer's character was supposed to be a gay. Does anyone know?
