The Lamp (2010)
All You Have To Do Is Believe. - The Lamp. (My September 2011 movie review)
In July I was privileged to be invited to a prelease of 'The Lamp'. It is based on the book by Best-Selling Author Jim Stovall.
Mr. Stovall is an awarding winning author of 14 books, four of which have been made into movies. Mr. Stovall's last movie 'The Gift' was released last year and as of July was still was one the top selling movies of our nations.
Mr. Stovall had a dream to play pro football. While in college, Mr. Stovall degenerative eye disease and was told he was going blind. After a lengthy battle of accepting his blindness, he became an Olympic weight lifting champion. He has won an International Humanitarian of the year in 2000. Because Hollywood was unwilling to make Mr. Stovall's family films with the messages that he intended he developed the Emmy award winning Narrative Television Network.
The movie stars an academy award winning Louis Gossett Jr., along with some familiar faces that you all will recognize from the hit television shows like NCIS, Lost, and 7th Heaven. The handicap children portray their own disabilities, as Mr. Stovall said "It is much better to hire a child who already knows how to run their wheelchair, instead of buying a wheelchair and then teaching a child how to operate it." Also be on the lookout for cameo appearances by Steve Forbes, and the blind Mr. Stovall as the limo driver.
Although I won't tell you all the details, I will tell that it will be wonderful family movie with twist and turns along with a great message. The story involves around a family consisting of Lisa (Meredith Salenger, Annie) and Stanley (Jason London, 7th Heaven) were just your average middle class family trying to rebuild their shattered life riddle with anger and guilt over the death of their five year old son.
Next door to the foster home is filled with children which a constant reminder that they no longer have a child. Miss Ester (L. Scott Caldwell, Lost) gives Lisa a very unusual Aladdin type lamp. Lisa shines the lamp and Mysterious Visitor (Louis Gossett Jr.) makes his appearance in the movie. Stanley meets the groundskeeper (Muse Watson, NCIS), at the ballpark, as he is watching Josh (Cameron Ten Napel), foster child as she plays baseball.
Louis Gossett Jr. and Muse Watson's characters in this movie work through their various emotional issues toward finding healed relationships. Through the ups and down of the relationship of Miss Ester, the foster kids, Stanley and Lisa brings hilarity, sadness, anger, joy, frustration love, and compassion throughout movie.
Even though I enjoyed watching this film, it had a good message about believing. This family film will be enjoyable for all ages. The film will be release September 20, 2011 on DVD. You can find more information about Mr. Stovall at his website at www.jimstovall.com.
Recently 'The Lamp' was aired nationally on the Inspirational Network.

You Again (2010)
You Again (My April 2011 Review)
If you're looking for a Friday night movie to watch, grab You Again at your local Red Box along with your favorite soft drink, and butter popcorn. You Again stars Jamie Lee Curtis (Gail), Betty White (Grandma Bunny), Sigourney Weaver (Mona), Odette Yustman (Joanna) and James Wolk (Will).
While I'm not going to tell you that this was the best movie of the year, but I will say that it is a funny movie
I mean come on it has some recognizable actors in it; and not to mention that the film will bring back high school memories for example, like the people you had to put up with, whether you liked them or not.
When Marni (Kristen Bell) comes home for her brother's wedding, she soon finds out that Will's fiancée is the same girl who used to torture her in high school. With the weeding date approaching Marni and her future sister-in-law, Joanna relives all their high school memories. As Marni tries with all her might to show her family and brother, Will show how Joanna is not right for him. She ends up revisiting the "high school Marni" she has tried so hard to get away from. The movie plays out the good, the bad and just plain ugly when it comes to laying out this plot.
As time gets close for Joanna and Will's wedding, everyone slowly remembers that they are each other's archenemies. Come to find out, each "frienemy" meets up again, and suddenly realize that each other what happen in high school can sometimes come back and haunt you. Throughout the movie, the fiancée finally recognizes Will's sister and soon grasps that Marni was the same girl that she use to torment back in high school.
My favorite part of the movie is when Betty White appears as spunky Grandma Bunny. One of my favorite scenes with Betty White was when the family was at the dance rehearsal, which got out of hand and ended up swinging on what look liked to be some type of material. One of the quotes that I really liked was 'We are our experiences; that terrible time made you the woman you are today.'
Although it is a romantic comedy, it is kinda cheesy. And for the guys, even though it is sorta cheesy, my dad sat through the whole thing and watched it with me. Even though it is your average cheesy romantic comedy, I recommend it for a Friday or Saturday date night movie.
RED (2010)
RED... 2011 movie review.
RED stars Bruce Willis, Helen Mirren, John Malkovich and Morgan Freeman. It is a comedy mixed with action and adventure with a touch of romance. The general plot of the movie is Frank Moses (Bruce Willis) gathering his old black-ops team together so they can uncover the pieces and figure out who put the hit on them and so that they can survive.
RED, Retired Extremely Dangerous, is an acronym for this group of retired agents. The movie has many unexpected twists and turns and keeps the audience's attention throughout the story.
This movie can go for guys or girls. There is lots of action, fancy high powered guns and cameo, designer clothing, romance, and very special pig. The filmmakers choreographed intense and graphic blow-up scenes that kept the movie rolling. One moral in the movie is to 'respect your elders'.
Marvin (Malkovich) is extremely upset when someone calls him an 'Old Man.' Each member of the group has worked their entire lifetime for the CIA and feels that they have earned respect for the jobs that they have completed in their careers. Even though RED is a high action movie, it contains a lot comedy. the character are ex-CIA assassins and they're quite lovable.
It's interesting on how each different personality works together to make the team successful. Overall this movie is a very enjoyable movie.
