Tora! Tora! Tora! (1970)
Tora! Tora! Tora! Heaps better then crap movie Pearl Harbor
Actually it is not correct to compare the two at all because Tora! Tora! Tora actually tries to tell a story with the focus on the real attack on Pearl Harbor. And the movie Pearl Harbor tells a story about how it is possible to spend lots of money on "good" actors and heaps of special effects and still manage to produce the worst piece of crap ever.
Anyway, Tora! Tora! Tora! tells the story without any stupid parallel stories. It also describes the Japanese like human beings and not brain dead morons. I think the reason why Tora! Tora! Tora! is a good movie is that it was a cooperation between Japanese and Americans. Which possibly increase the accuracy of the movie with a couple of 100 percent.
If you are looking for a movie with a historical and sane perspective of the attack of Pearl Harbor, Tora! Tora! Tora is a good choice! It also shows that it is possible to tell historical stories without taking sides!
K-19: The Widowmaker (2002)
Can Americans really tell the story about a Russian disaster!
The true story about the Russian nuclear submarine that ran into lots of troubles on it's maiden voyage. The most serious problem was when the cooling system to the reactor broke and since the vessel was not properly equipped with emergency supply and spare parts it was impossible to fix the problem without harming the crew.
K-19 shows how brave men try to solve problems and work together in tough and dangerous situations. With their own lives at stake they worked to repair the cooling system for the reactor core.
I actually thought that an American movie showing a Russian tragedy would be a very bad idea. In K-19 the director, Kathryn Bigelow, actually managed to show the chain of events without making the Russians look like fools and morons and vodka-drinking idiots. Good work, Kathryn! I think a good reason for the accuracy is probably the the National Geographics society was involved in the making of the film. Another reason was that Kathryn didn't add lots of stupid Michael Bay crap in the movie...like a love story or something even more submoronic. Thank God it wasn't Michael Bay who directed this movie!
Grosse Pointe Blank (1997)
Action? Drama? Comedy? Thriller?
Action? Drama? Comedy? Thriller?
Yeah, that is one of the things about this movie, it is all of the above! And that is of course what makes it so good. But to be honest, without the excellent actors starring in this movie it would probably been quite bad. But now we'll find John Cusack, Joan Cusack, Dan Akroyd and Minnie Driver in the movie, and they are all great!
One other thing that makes this movie good is the music!
The movie really brings back lost times and you will find yourself laughing but at the same time it is exciting so...you will laugh and be tense at the same time. A funny sensation I must say!
My IMDb rating: 9
Big Fish (2003)
It doesn't get better than this...
When I saw the French movie Amelie I sat in the movie theater with a smile on my face throughout the whole movie. The exact same thing happened while watching Big fish. It is simply one of the best movies I have ever seen. It made me feel good, it made me laugh, and it almost made me cry. What else is there to ask for?
The actors did an excellent job, and the dialogue and the story was told in a very good way! The characters are also well described, every character had a meaning in the movie, everyone from the friendly giant to the twins to the witch to the big fish!
The are a couple of movies that really makes me feel good, and Big fish easily enters that collection of feel-good-movies. (Amelie, The Cider House rules, Chocolat)
Pearl Harbor (2001)
The proper and correct term for this movie is: CRAP!
I think the proper and correct term for this movie is: CRAP! I have never experienced anything like this. It is bad in every possible way, with one exception: the sound. But I don't watch movies solely for the sound. The main purpose of this movie is to show the world that Americans are good and Japanese are bad. And that is something most Americans don't believe...with the exception of Michael Bay.
And what on earth is the love story doing in the movie? Wasn't it supposed to be about the attack on Pearl Harbor?
The worst thing about Pearl Harbor is that there are people who will believe that this is how the attack on Pearl Harbor really happened.
If you like this movie, you will never be a friend of mine! I think that explains how I feel about this very very very bad movie.
Rent Tora! Tora! Tora! instead, it's better in every relevant way!
