Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? (1966)
great movie
An epic of its time. Would over to see its remake. Richard Burton and Elizabeth Taylor were simply brilliant. They were also the real life husband and wife. The film won several awards. The movie commences with two faculty meeting over a social call. Their interaction. The senior couple who did not have any children and they decide to make up a 'son'. With a promise to never discuss "him" in public. A brilliant Broadway play which is turned into a classic movie. The acting the dialogs are all so unforgettable. I loved Elizabeth Taylor in the movie. The psychological and emotional journey. The gripping build up of emotional climaxes. Her acting as always is so over whelming real and moves the audience. The film had a memorable sound track. Great movie.
Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom (1984)
loved the thrill
Set in India, Indiana Jones is asked to find the mystical stone. It is a Spielberg extravaganza. As the story progresses it takes its viewers through magic, human sacrifice and slavery. Fighting assassins, going through an under ground temple, falling into trance, freeing the slaves, escaping from the crocodile infested river , risking their lives and saving children and the stones. The thrilling rides is endless. I loved it. Back in 1984, this movie- for me, was extremely entertaining. It started a fad. I watched it recently with my friends and we all loved it. Some things never lose their luster and this movie is one of them.
The Jungle Book (1967)
a story about growing up
A classic!I loved the songs. The movie starts with panther finding the baby in the basket. She takes him to the Indian wolf who has just delivered babies. Hence, Mowgli is raised with the cubs. 10 years later , a man eating Bengali tiger returns to this jungle and compels the wolves to decide to return Mowgli to a man village. The movie is about the journey and the lessons learned. Eventually Mowgli falls in love with a beautiful girls and decides to follow her into the village. Letting go of his previous life and friends. A story about loyalty and growing up and belonging. Mowgli is often referred to as a man-cub. I loved the movie then and I still love it now. It is an epic.
Maya (1966)
Nostalgia
I recently watched toy story 3 with my grandson. And having stumbled across Maya, I remembered watching this as a kid. I loved it. In the 60's when there was no animation and real tigers were used for stunts in the fight between the elephant and the tigers - as a kid I was so fascinated. Technology has progressed and amazing new movies are being made for the children. However, this is what children loved to watch in the 60's. Now, having watched it recently, I was re introduced to its beautiful music track. Good one. This movie was much before Indiana Jones and most other adventure films- MGM took its viewers on a fantasy journey of a continent far away and introduced a whole new culture and cross cultural communication. Worth watching. A classic in the genre of jungle adventure.
