Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny (2023)
A lot better than expected
I had avoided seeing this to start when it was released even though I have loved Indiana Jones since 1981. How can this be any good with 80yr old Indie?
How wrong I was. It sits neatly in the franchise and includes all the bits we love about Indiana Jones.
Loved the intro with a young Indie. Old Indie does a great job and he doesn't try and hide his age.
Great to see some old characters as well as all the new ones that all fit in well.
Definitely recommend to anyone that love the Indiana Jones films. Yes there are lots of special effects and stunt doubles. But probably no more than in the first film.
Much better than some of the bad reviews suggest.
Cocaine Bear (2023)
In the Scream type genre
Have seen this advertised so much and couldn't get away from the appeal. Turned out to be a very good film. Action, gore, horror comedy you name it, it ticks all the boxes. Well shot and great special effects with a cool soundtrack.
Yes it's utter madness and predictable. But it will become a classic if it can get past the censors:
Would recommend seeing this yourself and I'm sure you won't be disappointed.
Some great casting and great acting. Great seeing the brilliant Ray Liotta in his last completed movie with a credit at the end. Make sure you watch the credits at the end as there are at least three extra bits.
No Time to Die (2021)
No time for Bond
Unfortunately the world has moved to a point where you can't have a male secret agent killer.
This film wasn't a Bond movie.
It lets down the real Bond fans and it has wiped out the last 50+ years of Bond.
Toughen up world we don't all need to show our weaknesses to the world. In fact for some we are creating weaknesses just to fit in with the way people are today.
The world in real life is still not much different than 50 years ago. There's still wars murders genocide but now we are all dampened to it all.
Don't bother.
Fear Street: 1994 (2021)
Nowhere near as bad as some of these reviews say
Yes it's not amazing but it's definitely not a 1-3 star movie. In these times of very few releases this trilogy is a welcome to many a film buff.
The actors are all very good. Yes there's a bit of overkill on 90's music in the first half but that soon fades away when the killing starts.
Lots of unnecessary swearing makes this a 18 rather than the horror.
Yes it copies every horror genre but it's admits that and doesn't try to hide it.
I haven't watched the other two but this could become a cult trilogy and could surprise lots of people.
The Gentlemen (2019)
Wow didn't expect that
Friday night nothing on tv so head over to Amazon and I see that The Gentlemen is on prime. I had seen the poster and that it had been in cinemas previously. Sat down and thought I'll give it a go... OMG... best thing since Lock Stock & Snatch! The acting is brilliant with some real star quality. The support is fantastic with some memorable roles. It jumps a bit but this is no problem if you concentrate and watch. I will be watching this again soon to take it all in. Love the Bugzy Malone track (boxes of) Bush also
Greyhound (2020)
The new future for films
Loved that it was a short hour and a half of tense drama. It's basically just Hanks and he's doesn't disappoint. Yes he's older and yes it's not amongst his best roles but it's still a great effort. The music aides the constant tension and threat of the German U boats. Well worth a watch.
Hamilton (2020)
Amazing don't miss this
Fantastic cast brilliant music brilliant stage and scenery. This record breaking show was even better than I imagined. So glad to have seen the original cast performance. Everything's perfect. It appeals to all age groups and all types of people. Love the rap music incorporated into this master piece
The Boys (2019)
Justice League and Deadpool mix up that works a treat
Loved this take on the superhero world. It's dark funny and feels like a series of 1 hour cinema movies! The casting is amazing couldn't fault anyone. I just hope they can hold everyone in for the next season as there are so many actors that will be catapulted to stardom (if not already) by this series. Hopefully bigger budget and lots of cameos!!
The Greatest Showman (2017)
Stunning
Will go down in history as one of the best musicals of all time. And I imagine will become a yearly Christmas delight on tv for many years to come. Fantastic soundtrack, great acting, sets, costumes no negatives here!
Mrs Wilson: Episode #1.1 (2018)
Great stuff
Very interesting story made more so by It being Ruth Wilson's family! Makes you think that we may never know what Alex was up to for the government as a spy! Brilliant scenery, costumes music etc and acting very good
