Ripley (2024)
Amazing looking production only slightly married by casting (except for the cat!)
When the nominations roll again next year, I'd be willing to bet that the cinematographer wins. This is the most stunning looking production I've ever seen for a series like this. Just glorious! It is like looking wondering through a photography exhibit. I have a problem with the casting although I do think Andrew Scott is a fantastic actor. However, he and the co-stars are just too old for the characters if you are familiar at all with the original story. I love the cat!
This is a very leisurely paced series and I know that many viewers will find it boring. I was fascinated by it and the episodes in which murders occur are highly suspenseful.
Bake Off: Crème de la Crème (2016)
Enough with the Harry Potter music!
The show is interesting enough despite the head judge whose accent is very thick. The hosts are irritating at first but they grow on you. The most irritating aspect of the whole show is the annoying Harry Potter-like music that plays every time they show what the contestants are making. Ugh! A little variety would have been nice. It gets annoying really quickly. Otherwise, the use of classic music is very nice.
As far as the competition goes, however, the creations are artistic, dramatic and sometimes spectacular. There is the usual drama of show pieces collapsing. The judges seem to be fair in their eliminations.
Inventing Anna (2022)
Turgid, drawn out and badly acted
Bad acting, bad wigs, long and boring. As I've been saying for years, Julia Garner is an over-rated actress. Anna Chumsky fares a little better but her character is annoying and if the series wasn't bad enough, we have to endure an agonizing birthing scene.
Clickbait (2021)
Well done but jumps the shark at the end
Entertaining and at times riveting drama with each episode focusing on a different character. It is unfortunate that the outcome is so implausible. Had the focus been on the co-worker (which is initially implied), it would have been more believable than the ridiculous path it takes.
The Clovehitch Killer (2018)
For those wondering about the grocery store lady...
The girl (Cassie) tells Tyler that "she didn't see his face so she can't connect him to the Clovehitch killer". I enjoyed the film. Not entirely believable but good acting and overall well done.
