Scream (2022)
Ghostface's blade is truly blunt.
I really did want to like this infact I wanted to love it, and going by the user reviews I read through I have to say I was very optimistic and excited, but then I went to the cinema and seen it and god how let down I truly was, there was not one single original idea in this entire movie. The story the motive the reveal it has been done 4 times previously and it worked.......the first time. I can't quite understand when a young teenage female puts on the Ghostface costume and suddenly becomes 2ft taller and incredibly strong. And we have the returning originals there return was so empty and lackluster they turn up follow a car to a house have abit of a scuffle that's their input I mean what's the point if you don't even try. This franchise really needs to die here with our beloved officer Dewey. The fact he was over powered by a teenage girl instead of going out in a blaze of glory was enough for me. I can't understand the 10/10 ratings it was truly awful, I just wanted them to be clever and catch us off guard with the killer being exposed but no we get Avril Lavigne and the boyfriend. If you truly love the original this is not for you it's a snooze fest of recycled ideas nothing original.
Candyman (2021)
I'm not quite sure what I just watched.
I am writing this review not long out of the cinema and I am not sure what to say it was definitely not what I expected it to be and not in a good way for a short film it felt incredibly slow. They have flung Tony Todd's young CGI'd face on an actor for literally the last 7 seconds of the film and tried to pass it off as Candyman, have to say that 7 seconds was far more entertaining than the 89 minutes 53secs that came before it. Please do not go into this film thinking you are going to see candyman of old because you are not!! They have lost that gothic feel the original carried throughout the whole movie, the build up to Candyman coming back or making his first appearance after 30 years was way off I didn't feel the fear or anticipation I did all them years ago what we have here is a director trying to be clever and putting there own spin on it and has failed miserably, just give the fans the legend that strikes fear into them every time they look in a mirror I'm 34 and still to this day I have never said his name 5 times in a mirror yet. This movie in whole is not Candyman I'm not sure what it is except awful and lackluster unfortunately Candyman is not back if you are a fan of the original I would say stay away it's painful. I don't know how it's sitting on a 6.5.
Mortal Kombat (2021)
Not quite a Flawless Victory but still a solid start for the MK franchise.
I have to start by saying as a fan I really enjoyed this from start to finish, yeah it has its flaws but from a director that usually films commercials I'd say hats off he has done well especially to take on something as big as the MK franchise as your first movie. To start with the positives I thought the whole look and feel of the movie was great the settings and locations used really good fitted in well especially Raiden's temple was cool you got a small look at characters that are still to come especially the big statues of characters that will no doubt come into play next time mainly Shao Kahn. I really enjoyed the the build up of Scorpion and Sub Zero I thought both of them looked great!! I massive upgrade from MK 95 also the fighting scenes very well done looked awesome people have had ago at the CGI but honestly I thought it was not bad at all I've seen alot worse from films with much bigger budgets the sub zero scenes with the ice was very cool...... pardon the pun, thought Goro also looked pretty good. I also like how they stuck to the game with this you get a good look at a few characters as well as signature moves you get to see a couple of fatalities not alot but the ones you do see are done really well and this ties in great with the movie being rated R I mean it had to be MK and blood and gore go hand in hand so that was good. I have to say Kano stole the show for me he was brilliant he definitely had all the best lines for sure him and Sonya just clicked from the off. The flaws nothing in this world is perfect so without being to harsh I'd say the big thing for me was the lack of tournament I really wanted to see that I mean there is absolutely no tournament at all, also Cole Young the lead character he's not something you've never seen before basic back story of being the chosen one he doesn't know he's the chosen one you know how it goes. Also the acting at some bits you would think they are reading directly from cue cards. The lack of character back story is something more than just myself has said but in a film that's 1hr 50 long with that amount of characters it's impossible to delve into detail. If you are a fan and watching you'll already know who's come from where but still you would of expected a little more on that front. The two big things for me that I didn't like was no Johnny Cage!!! Even though at the end you know that Cole is actually on his way to Hollywood to find Cage on his quest to find other champions so you know he's going to be in the next movie for sure. And the last thing is the last 30 minutes they have rushed it packed everything into it just to get it done all the big head to head fights over way too quickly though they were still good just too short especially the Scorpion v Sub Zero showdown at the end absolutely awesome especially the fatality I just wanted to see abit more. All this being said it is a solid start to what is to follow and is definitely one for the fans I give it a strong 7/10 definitely the best video game to movie we have had in a while well worth a watch.
Haters Back Off! (2016)
Haters what's the problem??
After reading the user reviews I didn't hold much hope for this but I must say I was pleasantly surprised, some really funny stuff some not so funny stuff but all in all I enjoyed it. I feel as though it has a somewhat of a Napoleon Dynamite feel to it....though let me add I'm not saying it is on that level but I see some similarities. I'd gives a comedic look at youths today who crave social media attention and how the rest of society makes you aware very quickly how they feel about you. It tries to send a strong message with the comedy aspect, if you want something not to taxing and an easy to watch I'd give it a thumbs up just don't expect to see the greatest thing ever but it will make you giggle.
This Country (2017)
A true GEM!!!
This is the best mockumentry since the UK office back in 2002, it just works so well the jokes are dry and sometimes from left field but I just get it and love it. It hits all the right note laughter sadness and it will make you cringe. If you are a fan of the office I strongly recommend that you give it ago and if your not give it ago anyways, I will say its not to everyone's taste. Fingers crossed for a series 4.
Mortal Kombat Legends: Scorpion's Revenge (2020)
GET OVER HERE!!!......... AND GIVE ME A SEQUEL
Have to start by saying that WarnerBros smashed this one right out the park!!! Really enjoyed this from start to end, this gripped me right from the forst 5 minutes and just got better. The action comes thick and fast with awsome fighting scenes wrapped in classic Mortal Kombat blood and gore!! It has stayed true to the original MK games with all the classic characters, I enjoyed the origin story of how scorpion became the iconic figure he is today and they managed to do it really well while introducing the rest of the MK legends. If you are a MK fan you will love it and if your not what the heck you'll still love it!!! Please WB make another one soon as this is by far the best video game movie adaptation I've ever seen!!!
