Ozark (2017)
8/10 only because of disappointing finale
Very dark but hugely entertaining series. Completely bought into the characters and storytelling. Broadly managed to keep a good pace through 4 seasons. You really do see how the pressure builds on the main characters and the supporting cast is superb. Somewhat uncomfortable at times, but worth sticking with.
Spoilers ahead:
On balance, I would have given the series 10/10, but hugely disappointed with the ending and missed opportunities with story arcs. For such a dark series, too many loose ends were too neatly resolved: For example: How Nelson was dealt with - you know, a bigger twist could have been that he didn't kill Ben - how that would have shaken things up! Didn't like that Navarro was killed, his sister should definitely have lost out. The Byrd family ending was too neatly tied, I get they should have survived, but not without more drama. And most definitely worst (by far) was Ruth Langmore - she did NOT deserve that ending. Ruth was by far the person everyone is rooting for and didn't deserve that (a twist was needed - Three on the scene, or Sattem, as Ruths saviour)? I really wish they could have made a much more impactful ending, as feel completely let down.
Bank of Dave (2023)
A feel good, easy watch, British gem
For anyone who was oblivious to how the UK enigma of The Bank of Dave was forged, this is a real eye opener. What a super story, wonderfully acted and brilliantly conveyed. The British North-South divide is humorously captured and presented. Set in London and Burnley, Lancashire (the North), this presents both in a positive way (maybe a little bit too much, but this is a feelgood film, after all). If you like a modern day, feelgood British story, this is one to watch. Lots of great stand-out moments, British humour and a slow-burn romance. Well executed and congratulations to all involved. An instant classic.
