Tatort: Medizinmänner (1990)
Not comparable to earlier ones
Considering all the Schimanski-Tatorts, you have to admit they are not getting better. At the beginning, the plot had a typical "Ruhrpott" background and in the last ones, the crew tries more and more to connect the plot and general social and political problems. This movie belongs to those ones: The subject are illegal transports of drugs to Africa and some ugly guys are making a lot of money by doing this.
There is not much to say: You will know the murderer from the beginning, so there is not much tension. But: A highlight is Thanner, Schimmi´and Hänschen in the Netherlands (again after "Kuscheltiere" ). Some kind of the good old humor (and some statements and stereotypes about the dutch-german relations), you often miss in newer ones is brought in and this compensates a lot.
Definitely not a highlight, a little bit below average...
Tatort: Moltke (1988)
The best one
Having seen all Schimanski-Tatorts, I have to say this is the one with the most tension, the best story and the actors do a good job. This movie even received a price in Germany.
The movie has a special atmosphere because it plays around Christmas and of course Schimmi and Thanner have to celebrate this... in a very special pub...
The only disadvantage is the music by Dieter Bohlen, although you have to admit that it gives this movie a special 80ies mood (Bohlen also acts a little bit in this one).
I would say: Even if you are not very much fond of Tatort or Schimanski, you will like "Moltke" - the story is worth seeing it and the humor is quite ok.
Tatort: Katjas Schweigen (1989)
one of the better ones
The plot is exciting and in my opinion the actors are not as comical as in many "Schimmis" before. During the investigations, Thanner is convicted to have killed a young criminal. Schimmi works as a trainer in a American football team consisting of former (?) young thieves. The dead boy belonged to this team. The question now is: Who killed this boy ?
The solution is brought by the sister of the dead (Katja Riemann).
One of the better later ones...
Tatort: Der Fall Schimanski (1991)
Definitely no highlight compared to other "Schimanskis"
It should be the last Schimanski-Tatort and unfortunately the last cooperation between Schimanski and Thanner. The plot is simple: Schimanski has a sex affair with the wife of a high official and finds himself again in a very hot case of corruption. Of course nobody believes him, he becomes suspended and gets into a lot of trouble... In the end everything is all right: Schimmi proves the official's guilt but when his chief offers him a possibility to return in service, he says "NO" takes his hang glider and flys away after throwing down his legendary jacket, loudly screaming "Scheiße" in the sky over Duisburg. In this movie there are a lot of hommages and : His old chief Königsberg appears, Schimmi has to work as a department store detective (Highlight !), he is examined by a female psychologist - all this scenes are played with the typical Schimanski humour and of course good old Thanner and Hänschen play their very special part. The second big disadvantage of "Der Fall Schimanski" after the stupid plot is something all of the later Schimmis have: The protagonists become more and more comic figures and parody themselves. So if you want to see typical Schimmi scenes combined with a lot of irony, you will like this movie. But: There are a lot more Schimanski-Tatort with a better plot and a higher level of humor.
