The Killer Inside Me (2010)
Waste of time and money
Saw this movie on Showtime and watched it because Kate Hudson is in it. What was she thinking when she took this job? Does she need money that bad? Is this what comes of having babies but not getting married?
This movie is just an excuse for demonstrating how a woman looks when beat to a pulp by a guy. It's shocking and graphic in detail making it a must -see for sadists who have done this or would like to do this to a woman. I'm sure there are a lot of guys really enjoying it.
They spent $13M making this movie. Wonder how much Showtime paid to run it. Hate to think they would ever make a profit on this kind of movie. Hope Kate Hudson's mom talks to her about the movies she chooses to make. She sure disappoints me. Same is true for Casey Affleck. There are actors out there showing some taste in the movies they choose to work on.
51 Birch Street (2005)
A movie that could start deep conversations on a lot of subjects
Fantastic documentary. A movie within a movie. I'm so glad Block forged on after his Mother's death. Makes one wonder about the time and money spent in therapy. What might have happened if she didn't have that outlet? Did the therapist help her or just foster a dependency that kept his bank account flush? The audience needs to understand that divorce was less of an option in those days. She was a housewife - went to therapy instead of going to college or job training. She seemed to feel trapped by the situation. I wonder if the therapist ever tried to get her to think about what she could have done to change her situation and free herself? Meanwhile, wife #2 was just the opposite. She was out there, working with his Dad; ended her bad marriage, supported herself and appears to be a very confident, giving person. Whatever the state of the marriage, the Blocks did something right in raising 3 kids who could look at their parents' story, be OK with it and share it with us and maybe lead us to start conversations with our parents and spouses.
Two Weeks (2006)
Sad that it didn't get theater dist. Ridiculous R rating
The R Rating is totally uncalled for. It's a really long, tough look at what it's like to sit through a dying parent's last days and the roles people take on in this situation. Some may call it cliché but that's life and death. I've seen every one of the personalities depicted - even the Rabi! The quick move from limited theater release to DVD is strange. Usually the star appears on a few talk shows and plugs the movie. Sally seemed tied up with "Brothers and Sisters" when the movie went into limited showing. I think the movie distributors were afraid of it. What a shame that a movie like this isn't getting full play in theaters. Does this mean Sally won't have any chance at Oscar nomination for her work? I think it's a symptom of our inability to deal with death in America. Trivia - Sally Fields' son attended Syracuse University.
