For Better or for Worse (2014)
Miscast leads ruined the movie
Okay, pairing a 51yr old woman with a 37yr old man who looks 30 was not a good idea when they could have easily properly cast this male lead. It was just ridiculous, not to mention that both of their kids were supposed to be 22 which means he would have been 15 when he had his daughter. By this reasoning she could practically have been his mother in the movie instead of his romantic interest.
I have enjoyed other movies with a younger guy and older woman but it did not work at all in this movie.
Aside from that it was a typical Hallmark romance, cheesy but enjoyable in parts. I'm not that picky when it comes to these types of romances but these leads just annoyed me through the whole movie, they way overdid the animosity in the beginning, there was no chemistry between them at all and that, combined with the age difference, really reduced the believability factor for me.
A Christmas Wedding Date (2012)
Pretty bad
I have watched a lot of Christmas movies in the last month and honestly this was one of the worst so far; I can't believe the rather well known cast members agreed to be in it. It is basically a very poorly done remake of Groundhog Day. The characters were barely developed and I didn't care about any of them. So much of this movie was just plain stupid and annoying, from the miscast lead, to the way-too-good-looking ex boyfriend, to the undeveloped plot, to the unanswered questions. The causes for the behaviors of the characters were never even explained, just a lot of vague innuendo...what a mess. Basically I wish I had the two hours back.
The Nanny Express (2008)
Pretty bad
I usually like most Hallmark movies, yeah some are pretty cheesy, but overall they're pretty good. This one was horrible right from the beginning.
Is it just completely acceptable now for kids to be rude and hateful toward adults and caretakers, and their parent(s) not expecting anything else and not even trying to hold them accountable and discipline them for that kind of behavior?
You know in the beginning of the movie that the mom had died, and they're trying to imply that their behavior is because of losing their mother, but I don't buy it, and they're presenting the kids as nice normal kids, no mention of problems at school, etc. but they must have been brought up without any manners, discipline, and no expectation of respect; they are allowed by the father to say any hateful, disrespectful thing they want and have gone through about 20 nannies (none of them lasted a day) because the kids basically terrorize them, and get away with it each time. It's meant to be funny but it's not and I found it disturbing. The dangerous prank with the kids turning up the oven to 500 degrees to ruin dinner could have resulted in a fire but yet they repeatedly do this twenty times with no repercussions, like this is just a harmless prank? And the regular flooding of the laundry room, wouldn't that have had to be addressed by the father WAY before the 21st time....the kids are allowed to try to start fires and flood rooms in their home on a regular basis? And the later "misunderstanding" set up of course by the vindictive daughter, and the father's reaction to it, is just absurd. Okay, you get the picture of how ridiculous this movie is.
The dad actually witnesses his daughter being very disrespectful to the "new" nanny and doesn't ever say ONE WORD to her, he just apologizes to the nanny for his daughter, and even the nanny excuses the behavior, again implying it's because of someone different being in the house....what!? It's been three years since the mom died. Who wrote this script?
The dad obviously has money, how about he tells the kids that if they can't manage to treat the person he hires to help them and take care of them with basic respect and decency then he will have no choice but to send them off to boarding or military school, or how about one of those tough love camps....I bet that would get them in line pretty quick, and after the second -being horrible to nanny- incident, not the 21st!
It's obvious they were going for a Sound of Music theme here, but it didn't work.
FBI: Negotiator (2005)
Wins the award for the worst movie I've ever seen on Lifetime!
Okay, I watch Lifetime, I admit it. About four out of every ten movies are pretty decent and once in awhile there is a really good one. It passes the time when I need something relaxing. This movie actually made me gag, it is that bad, from beginning to end. The characters started out being pretty interesting but every scene got worse, I don't know how the actors got through it, they must have been thinking after each absurd scene that their careers would be ruined forever just from being associated with this movie! Not one plot line or scene felt real or at all believable, and it wasn't because of bad acting. Who in the world wrote the script and how could it have been approved? The last 15 minutes of the film really made me angry, I sat there with my mouth open saying "really?". Sorry for the rant, but I just had to warn people not to waste two hours on this.
Invasion (2005)
YES, they are crazy to cancel this show!
The petition is up to 23,000! http://www.petitiononline.com/33030/petition.html
Not much hope for it to help however. The TV Guide site has quite a bit of information on the show.
We all have to hope that a station picks up the show and the re-runs do really well so a movie (or any followup) could be made which would at least have an ending!
I love the way it all came together at the end, and what a clever cliffhanger! It was such an excellent finale but so frustrating to know there may never be an ending.
7th Heaven (1996)
Fantastic Family Show
I've been watching reruns of this show for about 6 months now and find it to be a refreshing view of family life in a non-dysfunctional family (wow, what a concept!). Although some of the scenes are a bit cheesy at times, the acting is excellent, especially David Gallagher and Barry Watson, the characters are all interesting and well developed and the relationships between family members are representative of what every American family should strive for in their own family; caring, watching out for each other, working out problems through communication. Every shows tries to deal with either a family problem or a social problem of some sort. Even though this is a family with probably higher than normal moral values (the father is a minister) the show doesn't shy away from the problems of normal life, especially problems encountered at school. It stands out amongst the depressing, dark and 'usually always immoral in some way' shows that are out there today. It lifts you up instead of dragging you down.
The Door in the Floor (2004)
Dud
Yet another movie that could have been a good one. Very poor development of characters is only one of the many problems with this movie. I don't know how this movie ended up with a 6.9 rating....I give it a TWO. I like Kim Basinger even in her bad movies but her role in this one was ridiculous, even embarrassing. All I can say about Mimi Rodgers in this movie is that she must really be getting desperate for roles. Jeff Bridges is one of my favorite actors and I think his performance was excellent in this movie; he was the only reason I even watched it to the end, along with thinking there just had to be some big, meaningful twist at the end to make it all better.
The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King (2003)
I'm obsessed
I first read The Lord of the Rings back in the 70's. I didn't expect much when I went to see the first movie but left the theater in amazement and couldn't imagine having to wait a year for the 2nd one....and so on. I can't possibly improve upon the excellent reviews I have read here so won't even try. After the first movie I re-read the second and third books, and after The Return of the King I re-read all of them. The movies have made the reading of the books a much fuller experience; before, it was hard to visualize much of the rich detail written in the books. Now I've become fascinated with the history and am reading the Silmarillion. I have to keep reminding myself it's just fantasy!
Chasing Sleep (2000)
Hated This Movie
As one who loves "different" movies, such as Memento, I hated Chasing Sleep, especially the way they ended it. I felt that the ending made the movie a total waste of time for me. Also, the crawling finger and large baby were ridiculous and took away from the quality of this psychological thriller. I add it to the long list of "could have been a good movie".
