HERKY JERKY
Herky Jerky CGI kids. No thanks. If Friedken can pull off the Exorcist 50 years ago then this is beyond lazy filmaking.
The Haunting of Bly Manor (2020)
Incredible and saddening......as a ghost story should be.
The quite apparent shallowness and ability to see beyond the end of the nose is quite visible in many of these reviews. It seems that many do not have the attention span or are unable to see just what is going on in this series. First of all. This is not a horror story...this is a ghost story. It is not supposed to be scary.....it is supposed to be depressing and creepy. I see many complaints about the Sleeping, waking and walking bit. Ghost stories are not rocket science. The confused nature of the ghosts is very well laid out in this series. The whole point of being a ghost is akin to not being able to or willing to cross over to the other side. This is very well laid out. A ghost that is a ghost for so long that through its endless years of wandering in a personal hell is extremely convincing. Loosing face with reason, monotony etc. over hundreds of years is truly saddening. NOT terrifying.......but sad. Being a ghost is about being sad. Being confused about being dead and not realizing that until a certain moment is heartbreaking. Once the younger ghosts see what they may be in for down the line adds insult to injury. On the other hand. The acting is superb, the camera angles are well done and the screen writing is excellent. This story is like eating a peach...Take a bite and savor it. Because in time......in due time, when you are sucking on that seed and trying to get the last bit of flavor from said peach you will realize that you might not understand or remember that first bite.....but the last taste of that peach and the fading of the flavor will leave you sad. This is a ghost story. We are all ghost stories.
The Lighthouse (2019)
Can't say enough.
This is a movie for people who like to actually watch people act. This is a movie for people who want something to chew on while they disappear into the film. No too fast too stupid car crashes, CGI green screen baloney. This film is the perfect theatrical experience. I see people give it a one star and all I can think is......where is your sense of wonder? It is brilliant, smart, funny, terrifying and perfect. A beautiful film made for the sake of making film. Probably one of the most enjoyable experiences I have ever had in a theater. This is the type of film that makes people want to be a director or an actor......a real actor. For an actor to crossover and commit to the project and step over that cusp like Dafoe and Pattinson did is what the art is all about. The actors, director and people involved in bringing this to life renew my hope in movies.
I Am the Pretty Thing That Lives in the House (2016)
Tried and true ghost story.
This is an incredible ghost story. Minimal blood and gore. Pure and simple story telling from the perspective of the shade. Many will think it is dry, dull and lame. But this is what film making and story telling is meant to be. A nice homage to Lovecraft and other turn of the century story tellers. It works on many levels. Camera angels, shading and form. Brilliant but not pretentious.
