Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 (2023)
A Clunky Mess
How is this currently sitting at 8.1 on the reviews? The story is so mediocre and unoriginal it's unbelievable. The origin of Rocket is basically just a poor rehash of Alan Moores V for Vendetta with stupid Disney animals. And what's going on with the relationship between Peter & Gamora? It's been totally cancelled-out, making their relationship in the 1st movie pointless. I don't need a happy ending but at least a distant spark would've been nice. Also, what's with the over-powered villain Adam? He starts out like superman but halfway into the movie he's getting hurt by minor explosions and is held down with normal straps? And god knows what happened to his mum? We see her at the beginning and middle but by the end she's basically forgotten! The ending is the worst of all, I mean wtf happened at the end? This is just cringe-worthy trash, seeing all these great characters from the 1st film turned into dancing clowns while being played out to one of the worst bands in history.. Florence And The Machine (who created the crappiest cover version of a great song in history by just yelling it out instead of using vocal-cords!). I'm amazed I sat through the whole film.
The Sopranos: Another Toothpick (2001)
One of the best episodes
This is one of my favourite episodes. Burt Ward is brilliant as Bobby's father who's dying of lung cancer but has refused treatment from his doctors. It's an absolute shame this is the only episode he appears in, he would've made a brilliant head of one of the 5 families.
The Book of Boba Fett: Chapter 7: In the Name of Honor (2022)
Jake Skywalker meets Jake Fett
Poor writing and direction have successfully made a poor show. The musical score is bland and nothing close to John Williams talents. You'd think Disney would have meetings before agreeing on a story arc but they continue to let the wrong people drive forward with weak plots. They really need to start employing some new fresh talent before their huge investment becomes a joke. There's comics and novels out there on all these characters that would work perfectly for a tv show, so why keep making the same mistakes you made with the last 3 skywalker movies? Bring Dengar, Bossk, IG88, Zuccas and 4-Lom into the show and get rid of the Power Rangers! Get rid of Favreau and Kennedy, they are ruining something everyone loves!
Star Trek: Voyager: Phage (1995)
Great macabre episode
I really liked this episode, in fact I'm watching the whole series from the beginning for the first time and enjoying it more than I thought I would. The only thing I don't understand is why the alien that stole neelix's lungs didn't offer to give him one back and instead took kes's instead!
The Mandalorian: Chapter 11: The Heiress (2020)
A show for kids
I'm beginning to realise I must be to old to enjoy this show. Disney along with Faverau & Filoni clearly lack the imagination of Lucas in storytelling as The Mandalorian episodes are simply a rinse/repeat borefest. I'm watching a warrior babysitter being saved by inferior power rangers that lack personalities. The show looks the part but lacks heart a good soundtrack and a spark.
It Chapter Two (2019)
No Talent
A Terrible insult to one of my favourite books from my teens.
They took a talentless director a crap screenwriter, a bunch of bland actors and threw in a load of CGI monsters. Unsurprisingly we end up with an utterly boring chopped up mess that goes on and on and on. The real horror is the fact they managed to drain the soul from my body.
Star Wars: Episode IX - The Rise of Skywalker (2019)
Better than expected
47 year old Star Wars fan here and I'm glad to say this was better than I expected. The Last Jedi was a a mess and JJ and the other writers managed to deal with that by pretty much disregarding most of it. Turns out Snoke was just a genetically grown lab rat, Rose & Finn don't like each other that much and Luke agreed he was being a dick. Anyway this film starts out well and had me interested from the start regarding Rey's relationship with Kylo and how Palpatine pulls them all together for a finale that didn't disappoint. C3PO turns evil for a bit, chewbacca dies, Lando made me laugh & Wedge Antilles turns up (I guess they waved a nice cheque in his face this time around). George Lucas said "Star Wars was for 12 year olds" and if I was 12 again I'd go out and buy the toys, lunch box and tee shirt again for sure. But like I said, I'm 47 so I'll just go back to work tomorrow and wait for the next big thing.
Venom (2018)
Wrong again critics.
What is it with movie critics at the moment.. The last Jedi?? I've been a comic fan since the late 70s and Marvel have once again nailed it for the fans in my opinion. The pace of Venom moved along nicely, setting the stage for a great action flick shot in San Francisco with excellent car chases, fight scenes, love interest and arch enemy showdown. Awesomely done!
Solo: A Star Wars Story (2018)
I liked it
Yeah, this was good old Star Wars storytelling and kept me gripped along the way. The only bad bit was the horrible feminist robot, but once that was thankfully blown to bits we were back on track. I'm a true Star Wars fan of 46 years old, I hated The Last Jedi but this has given me back some faith.
Star Wars Rebels: The Forgotten Droid (2016)
Great to see Choppers Shine
This episode gives Chopper a chance to show his true character and shine.
Although usually assumed to be selfish, he meets a new droid (A-P5) and they both soon become friends reminiscent of R2 & C-3PO's relationship, he then helps A-P5 by removing his restraining bolt and eventually freeing him from the clutches of the empire as well as outwitting several storm-troopers, beating up an imperial officer multiple times and managing to steal a freighter (along with a spare leg for Chopper) while saving the Rebel fleet from a trap!
This is actually one of my favourite episodes from season 2 and I look forward to seeing more of the same "old school" Star Wars as seen in this great episode.
Prometheus (2012)
Really bad!
What a shame! This could have been great, but the plot fails and along with shallow characters we wish the whole thing would just end as soon as possible.
Too many loose ends add up to a confusing plot. examples: 1. Why does Guy Pearse play an old dude, when they could of hired an old dude??(at some stage I was expecting him to become younger!)
2. The film starts out nicely with a scene of an alien drinking by a grand waterfall, yet this has nothing to do with anything later on!
3. In the original "Alien" film, the crew find the driver sitting in his cockpit, yet here, he tries to kill the last scientist in her ship, thus leaving the chair he is found?
4. Why is Fassbenders character trying to kill the crew?
5. Why are the humanoid aliens in the holograms running towards the crypt that's full of dangerous type of aliens?
6. Why didn't the humanoid alien that's sleeping leave earlier for earth before waiting to be woken-up by Fassbenders character??
The list goes on and on...
My 2 stars are for visuals and Fassbenders acting skills.
