I Care a Lot (2020)
3 stars for cast
This movie is simply ugly with no redeeming qualities. In this time of the pandemic I personally do not want to watch such ugliness. It's also utterly unbelievable. Diane Weist would have called her lawyer immediately, insulting to her (and my) intelligence. I didn't bother to watch the end.
Sharp Objects (2018)
Totally absorbing
I did find this series sometimes hard to follow but kept going and it was well worth it. Amy Adams and Patricia Clarkson are both extraordinary. We are drawn into their world by their performances but also the music score and the scenery. Quite memorizing. But what I really appreciate is that it was a book turned into a series vs a movie. Because of the pandemic I have watched several series like this one. A series can explore deeper into the material and do a story justice.
The Queen's Gambit (2020)
Elegant
An elegant and sophisticated series. Don't miss it.
The Haunting of Bly Manor (2020)
Nothing to do with Haunting of the Hill
This is based on The turning of the screw by Henry James. I suggest you read it and then evaluate this movie
Unforgotten (2015)
Great show
Of course this is British. It's shows are interesting and full of regular people and believable stories. I'm a Nicola Walker fan. Watched her in River another quality show. They take their time to develop a story. The acting is excellent and so natural. I must admit I not clear on Sir Phillip's role in the plot. Highly recommended for those who prefer stories over action.
The King of Staten Island (2020)
20.00 bucks?!
Where's the big screen, popcorn and drinks. Really. I'll wait.
The Haunting of Hill House (2018)
Great tv watch
Love the series. But I'm writing to criticize Amazon Prime. It says that you will be charged 3.00 a session but actually they charge 5.00. So beware.
Our Souls at Night (2017)
Beautiful
I found this googling around. I'm a movie fan and yet had not known about it. So glad I found it. I love and admire Jane Fonda but often have wished she would stop being the Hollywood beauty queen. She stopped in this movie and she (and Redford) were wonderful. Such a lovely story and all of it worked perfectly especially their becoming "parents".
Step Dave (2014)
Love it
I do love it. I am finding more and more British, New Zealand and Australian shows. They are so much better than US shows. Great acting, no laugh track and fun. However does this mother of three, business owner ever get tired and/or get a headache. Just saying. My problem is not enough to make me stop watching, just accept it is so not reality but that's not what I'm looking for in a TV series anyway.
Offspring (2010)
Delicious!
This is a delicious show and totally addictive. Love all the Proudmans and their charming and complicated lives. Try it, you won't be disappointed.
Maiden (2018)
Simply extraordinary
I emailed everyone in my (sailing) family telling them this movie is a must see. I was moved to tears by these extraordinary women, their spirit and bravery. This documentary is so inspiring. Bravo to them and the documentarian.
Todos lo saben (2018)
Confused
Loved the movie. I missed why they did the crime. Would love some clarification.
The Mustang (2019)
Interesting story
It is an interesting story and it was not a waste of time. However, i expected so much more from Robert Redford. In my image of him he is very familiar with horses and cares about the mustang. This picture shows little knowledge of horses especially training them. I am very disappointed in Redford and there is a dent in my admiration of him. He either doesn't know horses or he didn't care to be accurate.
Dumbo (2019)
All style, no substance
My recommendation if you saw this as a young child as I did - skip this remake. It's all movie magic a la Tim Burden but no heart, charm or poignancy. The story really isn't about Dumbo. It's all the intrigue around him with a little PC thrown in. Dumbo gets lost.
The Favourite (2018)
The ending
This is my first review. I'm going to take a chance and write what I think the ending was. I was quite taken aback by its abruptness and really hate endings that leave you hanging. But upon reflection I think it was the only way to go. Stone shows her real self by hurting the bunny, the queen realizes her mistake and humiliates Stone by standing over her, using her as a prop while Stone pleasures her, total domination. Stone did not win.
