The harshness and beauty of life in the deep mountains
9 April 2024
As a western viewing this movie I enjoyed it immensily. Being a foreigner i Turkiey, but knowing a tiny bit about its costumes and recent history, I was amazed by this depiction of a village lost in the interior of Turkey, close to the border with Syria. It shows the habits of the Kurdish population, and how a teacher that comes from a big city like Istanbul faces a culture shock. Above all, I think this movie is very beautiful, shows a reality we rarely seen, the lifes and struggles of the misfits the humbleness of poor people but also how they are humans. A great piece of history and culture.

Very underrated movie
11 September 2023
Usually when I finish watching a movie I go to it's Imdb page to give my rating and search for some insightful Trivia. And usually I imagine the rating of the movie in my head and sometimes I'm surprised it's too low or too high, but am never too far from This time I was shocked with how high I thought of the movie and how low it's evaluation was.

I enjoyed this movie a lot, has great acting (Giovanni Ribsi very underrated actor) and funny cameos - Vince Vaughn, Elvis Costello, a great story and great stylist and personal touches.

I think this movie should be rewatched and introduced to new audiences, it depicts well hollywood celebrities lifes, has a nice touch at the end and makes you feel empathy for the main character.

It clearly is inspired in the director's life, as must movies - photography, being an actor but wanting to direct, lack of personal space from audiences - and uses some cliches that you'll find in many movies depicting life of movie actors and their paranoia etc, but I think it's a great american movie, which talks about Hollywood without being Hollywood and has depth.

I think you should definetely check this movie and you will not be disappointed.

Counter culture 101
4 September 2019
I loved this movie. I watched it as part of Tarantino's list of recommendations before watching "Once Upon a Time in Hollywood" and it exceeded my expectations. Awesome at portraying the vibe of those times and the clashes between the hippies (the college students) and the establishment (symbolised by the school's board and teachers) with Elliot Gould, who turns in one of his finest performances, as the mediator between the two parties. Awesome directing, good pacing and great performances by Candice Bergen, Max Julien and a (very) young Harrison Ford. Highly recommend, as a college student myself I felt some of the topics are very accurate and still to this day some of those issues still exist

Spanish Narcos with a Galicia flavor
4 September 2019
When I found out about this series I was very excited, first because I loved Narcos and it was promised to be the Spanish version of Narcos and second because I, as a portuguese, am very familiar with the region this series depicts almost every summer I spend there my holydays. It was as good as advertised, similar to Narcos but not a knockoff, it as it's own style and does not fall for the usual 80's lifestyle cliches. Also it gets right on many of Galicia's costumes traditions and manner of speaking. The one thing that I didn't like was the pacing of the episode, that appears to be a recurring theme during the series, as it goes through many happenings to fast which doesn't let the viewer truly mesh with the psichology of the protagonists and their character evolution
