Nandor Fodor and the Talking Mongoose (2023)
Enjoyed it more than I had expected
I watched this on a longer train journey home this weekend, knowing it was a 5.3 rating at the time I queued it up. Was pleasantly surprised / intrigued and had to finish it off both on the tube then in bed when home.
Not quite sure what to make of it, leading me back to IMDb to check Trivia and other reviews! Knowing that it was based on true story, would have been useful to know beforehand.
A few of the characters seemed quite well acted, and even if perhaps a bit under-developed, Minnie Driver's acting seemed pretty good to my uncultured tastes. I'm curious what people might think of Simon Pegg's accent!
Monster Hunter (2020)
Went into this knowing what to expect...
... knew it was a poorly rated, Video Game to Movie adaptation. Expectation set, I found it quite watchable! I guess I just imagined it as a non-interactive non-AAA game and went for the ride.
CGI/effects all good throughout really. I wonder if it was a big budget, or just lucky with the tech available at the time...
Script was a big cringy, a few plot/logistic/science holes of course (or general unknowns as the world hasn't been explained so well).
I managed to ignore how the Diablo(s?) is able to swim under sand, but somehow fixated on how The Admiral had such a good (and ready) grasp of english and turns of phrases eg "I made a study of it".
Young Sheldon (2017)
Heartwarming watch
Watched 3 seasons in a row while self-isolating, and it was the perfect mix of sweet and funny. Wasn't a bad spin-off and stands alone fine. Hoping to see more.
The Last Kingdom (2015)
This show is solid
I expected less, and got more. Sitting here after unknowingly finishing all that's available (Season 4) and damn well hoping there's good news about more.
Snowpiercer (2020)
Enjoying it so far
Quite liked the movie and despite seeing some poorish reviews for this, gave it a go and am enjoying it. Just finished episode 8, and annoyed it's a weekly release show!
The Vast of Night (2019)
Wasn't sure what I was going into
Lovely little sleeper low-budget sci-fi. Could I have had more? Sure. Don't go in expecting Independence Day and I think you'll be in a better frame of mind...
Long Shot (2019)
Actually worked for me
I wasn't sure at one point, but by the end, I was really feeling this one - for what it was.
Enjoyable watch.
The King (2019)
My expectations were too low
Loved so much about this, and it's great to be pleasantly surprised. Good amount of grittiness too.
The Secret Life of Pets (2016)
7.5 Stars Really. Better than I was expecting
Was expecting just another animated kids movie. And yes it is, but - enjoyed it more than I was imagining with plenty of chuckles-out-loud, and I was having a no-wine night as well!
Ibiza (2018)
More bad than good
I'm going to be generous and give this a 4/10. Generally, it was all pretty poor but still marginally in the watchable zone. I had a couple of laughs here and there and I stuck to the end for completion. I kinda knew what I was in for ahead of time so it's a case of caveat emptor / buyer beware.
