Rhyme and Punishment (2011)
Interesting doc
First of all let me say that normally I avoid documentaries. I find myself disinterested for some reason, but THIS one was very engaging.
This doc breaks down the rappers experience of a rise to fame followed by a trip to the pen. The film makers do a great job of explaining every part of the processes and giving a detailed look at the system that makes you feel like you understand what they go through.
Surprisingly all of the rappers speak with some level of competence. They have valid points to make about how the system is designed only to sustain its self and the industrial complex that has been built up around our prison system.
The rappers are all recognizable big names and that really drives the point home. To see Project Pat, whom was one of my favorite parts of "Adventures in Hollyhood", talking about his prison experiences reminds you that these are real people and not just their image.
The Punisher (2004)
Perfect adaptation
The greatest thing about The Punisher is that the changes they made from the comic book actually serve to make it a better movie. The murdering of his entire extended family instead of just his wife and kids make his motivation even stronger and serves to make John Travolta even more sinister.
The film is basically a modern day western. The score sets that mood perfectly and while at times melodramatic, it is a great score.
The movie is directed artfully and the action ,while intense, always has sort of classiness to it. Unlike the Punisher Warzone, which is just a piece of crap movie (avoid at all costs).
Thomas Jane plays a wonderful Frank Castle, giving his that brooding dark edge from the comic but also humanizing him. He has a very expressive face that makes the action sequences more that just him being angry, you can actually track his thought process by watching his face.
I have seen this movie many times and every time by the end I am incredibly pumped up. Also it should be mentioned that the ending is super satisfying. It is a shame that this movie never got the true sequel it deserved.
Pathfinder (2007)
Could not finish this horrible movie
I could not finish Pathfinder when i tried to watch it. The acting is terrible, the writing is terrible , the whole thing is just plain bad.
The camera shakes the entire time which is ceaselessly annoying. They break all the rules of continuity and during the action sequences , and the whole movie, it is way to difficult to tell what is happening. For a movie that is mainly about action you think they could have gotten at least that right.
Marcus Niespeil is a horrid director, and it makes me cry that he is doing the new Conan. That will most likely be a half retarded shakefest as well.
Carl Urban, what are you doing here?
I whole heartedly do not recommend this. i recommend that if you find a copy you burn it.
Avatar (2009)
Blows, a lot
This movie sucks, you know why?
You've seen it a hundred times. Dances with Wolves is a good example.
Man goes to the savages, learns they aren't so savage after all, big battle, role credits. The effects are spectacular, but as a film, bleh.
Sam worthington has yet to be good in a movie. He can't keep his accent straight, ever. In no movie iv'e seen him in was he able to do this. He is a bad actor, and i know some people love him, but it is undeserved.
Again the effects are great and the action is superb, that is James Cameron's strong point action. We he tries emotion it comes across as cheesy and fake, just like Titanic. Thats right Titanic blows too!
Watch it cause you have to, but only once, other wise you will see throu the vale of cgi and find a movie you've seen a hundred times and a hundred times better.
Just Another Day (2009)
Realistic, Gritty, and Badass
This gets it right! All of Peter Spirer's experience with rappers and hip-hop really shines trough on this picture.
Its a small movie but a good one. Accurate to a fault this is realistic and gritty portrayal of the life of rappers. The characters are likable without becoming phony or too nice. They are gritty and seemingly real characters. You feel their different personalities very forcefully and the actors are good, no great.
The editing is fast and furious. It really moves the story forward and keeps the viewer engaged. There isn't much violence, but what is there has an extreme impact. When some one gets shot you are shocked and horrified, just as you should be.
If you like rap, if you like hip hop, if you like movies, this is one for you.
Keep it up!
