Avrodh: The Siege Within (2020)
Bad acting and direction
You tend to compare it with URI movie which was based in same topic and this doesn't stand anywhere near to what the movie was. Direction is bad , acting is extremely bad, there is no intensity at all. The final episode looked like sequel of Aankhen the series that aired on Doordarshan in 2001.
Satyagraha (2013)
What starts well doesn't always end well.....
First part of movie is extremely well made. You get so much involved with what is happening in the movie and not for a single moment you feel disconnected. But the second part lets the movie down. The title is appropriate only for the first part. The second part can be titled as Hatyagraha, total violence. The first and second part as so different that I would like to rate them separately. For me first part is a 9 pointer and second just comes close to a 5. There are a few songs in the second part which are totally unasked for.
The movie is a very good attempt to showcase the anti-corruption movement which were recently carried out in India. In reality, fight against corruption is a long ongoing process which continues even after the anti-corruption movement is called off (i.e. effectively the movement didn't sum out to concrete result). The end result of the movie is also similar (i.e. no results). But if a movie doesn't end well and doesn't conclude to anything to fell very unsatisfied with the movie. At least thats what happened to me.
Acting wise everyone was excellent. Amitab, Ajay Devgan and Manoj Bajpai were outstanding. Kareena was brilliant and well. Amrita Rao was also good.
All in all, the movie highlights very well the corruption, it strong nexus with the political world and the fate of all anti-corruption movements. But as a movie it lacks something that makes a blockbuster.
Madras Cafe (2013)
Plot is gripping
Its a political/war movie and the story line is very strong. The first half feels a bit disconnected with short scenes. The movie is very fast and sometimes you lose the plot. Feels like they had a lot of content and wanted to fit everything in a two hour movie which was actually a good Idea. Length of the movie was just perfect.
The second half is extremely gripping and connects all lose ends. In the end everything connects very well and everything makes sense.
Acting wise John was OK. Nothing exceptional about him. None of the characters actually standout. There are some emotional scenes but none of them actually make you cry. Its hard to imagine John Abraham make you emotional purely on the basis of this acting.
To me the true winner over here was the story line which is extremely gripping and makes up for everything. In the end its a good watch and leaves you wondering about a lot of things. Personally I loved it.
Note: does not contain any Bollywood masala.
