Enys Men (2022)
Beautifully Shot, No Story
I'm all for artistic movies with symbolism, movies that require imagination. But this movie comes across as a movie that is supposed to symbolize a lot yet gives absolutely nothing to what it's trying to say. Not even hints. If you want viewers to use their imagination, you have to give them a a story. Some kind of plot. Nothing happens in this movie. It hinted at a history of the island and of the main character but it barely elaborated on any of it. It leaves you waiting, assuming it's a slow burn, and then it builds up to nothing. Which is a shame because it is visually stunning. I wanted to know what the story of this woman was but only felt like I got a glimpse into her story. I wanted to find more meaning in this but it was beautiful none sense that could've been something special.
Terrifier 2 (2022)
Gory, fun, epic
As long as the movie is, it captured my attention the entire time. The kill scenes were phenomenal and shockingly gory. There was one scene in particular, involving a dream, that I loved. The plot was great and the lead actress was fantastic. And David of course was brilliant as Art the clown- watching him in this movie was like the first Terrifier on crack. He had no mercy and it was perfectly twisted. I especially loved the little girl clown in this movie, she brought a whole new level of creepy. Every scene was interesting and I loved the various settings. Damien and the whole cast should be so proud- you really outdid yourself. Thank you for keeping horror exciting and giving us what we want to see!!
Gossip Girl (2021)
Seriously?
No. Just no. What were they thinking with this cast? They just don't fit the type of role they're meant to play at all. Wtf.
Hereditary (2018)
Best horror movie I've ever seen.
I've spent my whole life watching horror movies yet there were parts of this movie that left me in utter shock
and horror, left me gasping and hoping they wouldn't go where they did. I can't praise this movie enough.. brutal, crafty, original, eerie, compelling.. just brilliant and utterly disturbing and terrifying. I can't say enough good things.
Poltergeist (2015)
Don't Remake a Classic
Let me start by saying that the original Poltergeist is a classic- it is one of the best horror movies of all time. This remake does the original no justice. The only upgrade is that there are better "effects", but the effects themselves take away from the magic that the original film possessed. The acting is poor, the plot is a watered down version of the original, and the remake lacks a lot of what made the original so memorable.
The original had a slow progression of suspense into complete dread, and it caused the viewer to be attached to the story. The family in the original was perfectly set up and worth of being adored. The remake possessed none of this- it is not even scary. The scariest part of the movie involved a squirrel- there is nothing whatsoever memorable about this movie and it does nothing but take away from how incredible the 80's version is. Save your money and just watch the first version- trust me, this film is a joke, especially in comparison to the Poltergeist we all love.
Oculus (2013)
Psychologically disturbing- ORIGINAL
I cannot believe that people are giving this movie low ratings. As an avid horror movie fanatic,it takes a lot to freak me out in a movie and this movie not only disturbed me it stood out to me.This movie is based off of psychological mind tricks and you will feel as if you are being deceived by the mirror. This does not get its horror based off of cheap jump out scares or gore, it messes with you so you no longer know what's real and what's not. While the ending was very abrupt,I love how the whole film mirrors itself in the past and that the two story lines interconnect. This may not be for everyone, but I can say that this movie is psychologically terrifying. This generation is used to over used gore and predictable horror, but this movie is different than that. Despite what others say it is not just another scary movie. I left the theater afraid after all of the illusions the movie pushes you through. It is slow, yes, but it is full of suspense and the slow dread adds to the plot. I bet the people who rate this low are into the shock factor and gore of other horror movies. Give it a chance.
