Watership Down (2018)
Wasted Opportunity
I was really looking forward to this, but having seen it once, will certainly not watch it again, unlike the original that I have seen countless times.
The graphics were not great but neither was the voice acting which was poor in many cases, and not in fitting with the original characters. They may have stripped out some scenes they felt wouldn't be suitable for kids (not that I remember being traumatized by the original) All the warmth and charm of the original has disappeared.
All this remake has done is make the original seem even better. How I miss the simple animation of yesteryear.
The Shawshank Redemption (1994)
Deserving of its place as the best film ever made
Many, including myself, would wonder what the point is of writing the 4,368th review of this film.
Well, I have been a member of this website under one log-in or another for the last couple of decades and never written a review, so if i'm going to write just one review, it may as well be about the best film ever made I suppose.
The Shawshank Redemption undoubtedly, in my opinion, deserves to be the highest rated movie of all time. It is a film you can watch again and again and take something more from it each time. It is simply life affirming, which we often need in these times where so many of us float through life, not appreciating what we have, and taking simple pleasures for granted.
It is a moving tale of hope, friendship & redemption. The friendship between the two main characters is unforgettable and the score is fantastic.I feel sorry for people who say this film is overrated. Not because I don't respect that other people have different opinions, but because if you cannot appreciate this film and the messages it gives us, then I feel you are missing out.
If anyone ever bothers to read this, the 4,368th review of this film, then I thank you for reading the only review I feel the need to write.
